Thirteen players in as West Ham invest £60m

West Ham have invested a record £60m in the summer transfer window to bring in thirteen players. (Image by @WestHamSocial) The Hammers have spent £35m more in transfer dealings this summer than for the whole of last season’s transfer dealings!

ClaretandHugh believe the Hammers have committed to shelling out a total of £70m in this transfer window comprising of Zaza (£4.2m loan fee+ £17m transfer fee), Fernandes £5.44m, Ayew £20.5m, Masuaku £6.2m, Lanzini (including add-ons) £10.2m, Tore £2.55m (loan fee), Martinez £2.55m and Calleri (loan fee) £850,000.

The remaining five signings were signed on free transfers but often with massive agent fees and large wages.

The five are Sofiane Feghouli, Ashley Fletcher, Havard Nordtveit, Alvaro Arbeloa and Domingos Quina.

When you subtract the £10m we received for James Tomkins our net spend on transfers reaches the £60m figure quoted by Gold and Brady. Last season we shelled out nearly £44m in transfer feeds but crucially we received nearly £20m back for outgoing players making our actual net spend just under £25m.

  1. I feel that our transfer busines was totally unstructured.% freebies and 3 loanees! We haven’t spent £60m cos Zaza is only an option to buy.Mostly we bbrought in players to cover injuries,Zaza,Calleri,Matsuaku,Arbeloa, but it seems that we ‘ve gone for the cheapest options.Would we have brought these players in if not forced to.We needed a centre back and right back and a striker for sure.We ended up with a team full of midfielders, some of which, from what I’ve seen, are not up to it.Time will tell but I think we could have done alot better than we have,in comparison to similar teams-Palce,Everton.We want to be a big club but we still think small.

    • I do have a similar feeling. I think because the plan was to blow the budget on a lacazette type player we then aimed to save money elsewhere, hence the freebies. But the marquee signing never materialised and then the rest of the free/cheap options were already signed and we were stuck with them.

I think I would have passed on Tore and Calleri (the spuds deals for Janssen, £17m, and Nkoudou, £9m, leaves an even more foul taste in the mouth), would have had Redmond or Townsend for the wings, would have preferred the loan deal for Wilshire over the freebie Nords, think fletcher was a great bit of business if he can keep going like he is, I am a fan of Ayew but I’m sure we could have gotten him cheaper if we were more on the ball (supposedly Swansea set the price at 15m at the beginning of summer), Matsuaku does look good too but it does make you wonder if cress had not got injured would they have signed a back up? They waited til the last minute to sort out rb despite knowing all summer we needed one to cover Byram, they didn’t think ahead particularly well in terms of creativity – even a blind man could see that with Payet at the euros and lanzini at Olympics we would not have much creativity in midfield for first few games yet didn’t sign any cover and it cost us Europe.

Liverpool and the spuds both showed after Suarez and bale left you can spend a huge amount of money on a large number of players but it doesn’t guarantee quality. “13 players in and 60m spent” doesn’t impress me at all.

This could have been an objective piece that had a good look at our transfer business but instead is another mindless pro club piece from Sean that cheapens this website. Can you not keep the pr girl/Brady fanboy sycophantic “journalism” for WHTID? I’m sure you’ll get much more appreciation over there for being a good ‘company man’. You certainly won’t get any here from me.

  2. Palace and Everton really? Don’t c y every1 thinks they had such great window, palace bought a striker who flopped last season some1’s 4th choice centre back and a relegated winger with a cheap buy out clause, Everton got valencia hahahahahahahahahaha!!! And both teams sold players for mega bucks!! Zaza money will have to be paid after 15 games so it’s not an option, it’s as close to a enevitability as possible without being 1

  3. Blimey?? Misery moro has spent half of that again on one?? Who’s a dicky boy then
