West Ham away tickets to be capped at £30

TWentyis plenty

West Ham Away supporters are set to benefit from a £30 cap on tickets in the Premier League from next season. Premier League clubs have voted unanimously to cap the price of away tickets at £30 for the next three seasons.

The debate over the rising cost to attend top-flight fixtures has been a hot topic for some time with a series of high-profile protests organised by the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) saying ‘Twenty is Plenty’.

Thee Premier League revealed  today that all 20 clubs have recognised that more must be done to help travelling fans, and a cap was agreed upon at a meeting last month with the new initiative set to begin from next season.

“Premier League clubs have unanimously agreed that for the next three seasons away fans will be able to attend Premier League matches and pay no more than £30 for each of their tickets,” a statement read.

“Clubs know that away fans have a unique status. They are essential for match atmosphere and stimulate the response from home fans that distinguishes Barclays Premier League matches from those of other leagues.”

The new cap will replace the Away Supporters’ fund that was introduced in 2013, in which clubs introduced individual measures including travel and ticket subsidies. Each club received £200,000.

West Ham have now released a statement saying:

“West Ham United are delighted to endorse this afternoon’s Premier League announcement of a league-wide £30 cap on all away tickets for the next three seasons.  While the decision to cap tickets at £30 each will cost the Club over £2,000,000 in lost revenue over the next three years, the Club supported the move to ensure its own supporters benefited from the price cap when they travel to watch the Hammers play away from home.”

  1. Maybe it’s just me but Saying we’re delighted on one hand and then mentioning £2 million in lost revenue makes it seem like ‘delighted’ is a bit of an exaggeration and that in actual fact we are are really begrudging the lost revenue. I think sky sports news are hammering us because of it They are making much of the fact that West Ham were the most expensive away ticket st £70 and now they are comparing our £2 million lost revenue statement to that of Tottenham.
