West Ham injury news goes from bad to worse

OBIANGFirst scans on Pedro Obiang’s knee were completed on Sunday, further scans will likely take place on either Wednesday or Thursday this week. Depending on the severity of the injury, Obiang could potentially be sidelined for the rest of the season claims www.whufcbulletin.com.

The report claims medical scans have revealed that Pedro Obiang has sustained a tear to his Lateral Collateral Ligament (LSL). Further investigations will be undertaken after swelling has reduced to determine the extent and grade of tear of the injury and whether the midfielder will require an operation.

Initially, it was thought he suffered Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) which has a six week recovery period but now medical staff believe it is much worse than first thought.

A recovery from grade one or two LSL tear involves compression, elevation, cryotherapy and short-term use of crutches.A hinged brace is used for 4-6 weeks before the player came resume light training.

Grade three severe LCL injuries typically require an operation due to rotational instability since they usually involve the posterolateral corner (PLC) of the knee. Patients may require bracing and physical therapy for up to 3 months to prevent later instability before light training and rehabilitation can recommence.

  1. and therein lies the reason why managers are reluctant to use their first team players against lower league opposition. I thought Wigan were over physical on Saturday. So much so that it wound up Masuaku to react as he did. The tackle on Obiang used excessive force in my opinion. The Wigan player used his trailing let to ensure that he “left something” on Obiang. Lower league refs do not protect players; especially when it is lower league v Premier League. They have a duty of care which they fail to carry out

    • Couldn’t agree more, as demonstrated every week in the premier league, it doesn’t matter if you win the ball if you take out the player while doing it. Swinging his boot into Obiang’s standing leg was nowhere near the ball and reckless.

    • I have no doubt the wigan player went for him, or at least did not refrain on his effort. Good indication is the aggressor never inquired if Obiang was all right or came to apologise. He had his instructions to play hard, that is what he did. Those Wigan players were compensating their supposed inferiority with use of excessive physicality. Same thing in the Cardiff/Man city match, where Cardiff’s number 3 went with all his bile and spite at Sane’s leg, leg fully extended and studs on Sane’s leg. He could have broken his leg, barely got a yellow. All the press in Europe calls that player a butcher. There is no place for that type of vile behaviour.

There used to be a belief that no footballer would intentionally injure or hurt a colleague. I don’t think it is true in modern football. Look at Ramos, Pepe, McCarthy, and so many others. One thing is to make sure they respect (and fear) you, another is to go for a player and whatever happens happens.

The Wigan player should have been sanctioned with a red. If I see any of that on any match I referee, even if it is a U-14, the player is out. Unfortunately the refs in England seem to feel there needs to be more leniency with the weaker one, just to rebalance things a bit. That is wrong.

  2. We are in a horrific position at the moment. We have a terrible fin squad anyway, now with the injuries we have to all of our major players, I really cannot see how we will get anything from crystal palace.

Our only hope is Antonio comes back fit and at his best, but with such a long time off it seems unlikely, He will take time to get up to speed, and we just don’t have any.

I like to try and stay positive, but its just bad news after bad news lately, and being realistic with the team we will be able to field, we will be lucky to get a point.

Still it wont stop me turning up to show my blind support Tuesday evening.

As always fortunes always hiding, but we just cant find it.

  3. I have to say Sean that I think this qualifies as good news! When I saw the headline I thought you were going to tell us another three men were down. One player injured? Out for longer than expected- check. Until the end of the season – check. Will he live? Possibly? RESULT!!

I agree on CP colejamesuk. I think under the appalling circumstances a draw would be good. Think we have to avoid another home defeat to a rival. As far as you can tell the defence is more or less fit. A bit defeatist but how are we going to a) create anything b) convert any chances with the players we have without opening ourselves up. So annoying when we had how’d signs of life for a month.

  4. I can’t see us getting anything against palace with the squad we have…Fulham said they would not sell cairney for even 40 mi!lion so what do we do put another bid in for 18 mi!lion..you couldn’t make this up…absolute muppets running this club
