West Ham linked with predictable midfield target

West Ham has yet again been linked with Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The Daily Stair claiming an Exclusive say this morning that Manuel Pellegrini has long been an admirer of Wilshere. While in charge of Manchester City he was heavily linked with a swoop for the England outcast.

The Arsenal’s midfielder’s current deal runs out at the end of this month, meaning he would be a free transfer should there be no resolution with Unai Emery by then.

It is often a common recycled story that has been wheeled out while both Slaven Bilic and David Moyes were in charge. He has long been a bookies favourite to join the Hammers since he published a childhood photo of himself in a Hammers shirt.

In the past, the Hammers were uncertain about signing him given his long injury record but the player was said to be keen and there was strong speculation that his agent had been told to do a deal with the Irons if possible. He is said to want £110,000 per week to stay at Arsenal.

  1. Seeing as he missed out on the England squad despite playing more than most seasons perhaps there is a better chance of signing him, I hope we do he can unlock defences and make our midfield tick, he also plays the way Pellegrini wants players too.

  2. I would class myself, like Pellegrini (apparently), as an admirer of Wilshere’s skills. But paying money for him? Not so sure. I am hoping somebody in the recruitment process this summer is including a tough investigation into each player’s injury history. We really have had too many over the last few years who are out injured for too long.

Also I did read that Bournemouth ( manager & fans) were none too impressed with his loan spell a couple of years back. Even though he put in some good performances last year the fact that Southgate did not feel there was room for him in the WC squad midfield ( where the competition is not exactly fierce ) would be a concern for me. All in all I would say thanks but no thanks. But to anybody poised to reply by saying who would you get then- point taken! Not a clue.

  3. I kinda agree with you 64, tho I’d be interested in a pay per play contract. If he’s fit he can be very useful
But we don’t need yet another leach on the pay list who get mega bucks for getting massages all day every day and
    Gives nothing in return.

  4. I think we should sign him he is getting back to his old self ..and he would like to come here..no brainer imo

  5. He’d be on a free too, so massive savings if we only have to pay wages.
