Why this manager gives Irons ANOTHER big edge

As the dust settles on the Pellegrini appointment one point appears to have remained overlooked !

By and large his arrival has been welcomed in a big way by Hammers fans although social media will always ensure  those with axes to grind will come across louder than those who are content.

As a member of the ClaretandHugh Facebook group said this morning: “A comment at 8 am becomes a war cry by 4pm.”

However, there’s no denying that in the former Real Madrid manager – when have we been able to say that before? – we have a bloke of huge status and that is going to be a major plus in the summer window.

After all if this guy, with his reputation and record comes after you as a player, then he is clearly a bloke you would want to play for which will give us a head start over most clubs outside the top six.

And that in itself will be a great start because I fully expect a top ten, even top eight, finish next season with greater progress again in the second and third.

Having a manager who can attract top names is essential and for the first time in many years – remember Grant, Allardyce, Bilic and Moyes – we have that man.

Social media being social media the first shout raised will be that he is unlikely to have the funds despite him and his team costing a total of £11 million a year and the club ready to release around £75 million plus any money from player sales this summer.

That could bring it to around £100 million – almost double the £52.7 million spent by Arsenal last season.

I think Mr Pellegrini could make that go quite a long way.

  1. Yep; onwards and upwards.

  2. Completely pointless point about what Arsenal paid last summer. Its irrelevant like pointing to the fact Arsenal spent over 60 million plus another 20 million pound rated player in an exchange. While we made a profit and wasted millions on Jordan and Evra.

I am excited by our appointment but this kind of article would best served in Pravda. I expect us to spend big as we have brought in a decent amount in sales and reduced the wage bill.

I am excited for next season but this kind of article is just a puff piece

    • Completely agree, let’s just wait and see how it all pans OUT? Everton last season had this great expectation? Bringing in Ronald Kidman and spending quite lot of dosh with there new rich owners, look what happened there?? Lets just calm down and see where we go from here, and not build our hope’s so high?? Then any thing that works out for the better will be a bonus? And not a disappointment.Change always takes time . Been a fan so long now to know? So like the ‘bubbles ‘ song ringing in my ear ” they fly so high then like my dreams they fade and die” that is being a west ham fan ( the glass is always half full or is it half empty????) Keeping the faith C.O.Y.I Keep calm and give it time

  3. I also remember Zola and his claim to attract big players to our cause. It never happened except Savio of course.
Lets just see what happens and not fool ourselves.

  4. As I said in agreement with the Nigel Kahn article, we need to stop puffing our chests out over the pellegrini appointment. It just serves to raise expectation levels yet again to unrealistic levels.
