Aguerd upgrade already in West Ham’s sights | Chaotic weekend ahead

Still business to be done before deadline day: Most West Ham fans will be keeping everything crossed that the seemingly permanently – dissatisfied Nayef Aguerd will soon be put out of his West Ham misery and dispatched to -anywhere, frankly. Following his reluctance to return from a season-long loan, and his reported desire to head off to Marseille – it would be fitting if the Hammers sent him off to Sunderland to realise too late just how fortunate he was to have been living down south!

However it does beg the question of a reinforcement to the back line should Aguerd depart and bbc.co.uk amongst others were reporting yesterday that West Ham were in discussions with one of the brightest rising stars from England’s u21 Euro Championship-winning squad:

“Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell is among the targets West Ham are looking to sign before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The 23-year-old was an important part of the England Under-21 side that won the European Championship in the summer and was named in the Uefa Team of the Tournament.

Cresswell’s performances have attracted interest from clubs in Serie A and the Premier League, and West Ham are the latest to plot a move.”

Whether it is feasible before deadline day on Monday is another matter: Toulouse are already in discussions over a sale of another defender so it may yet prove too big a mountain to climb before the window closes.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Very tight timelines especially with our haggling owner, if he was a Will Salthouse client maybe ? Looks a decent defender though to be fair and he is homegrown so would be a help on that front. Still remains to be seen what is happening with Paqueta and is Kilman good enough, genuinely feel Potter’s system is the problem it’s like an inverted bowl where we can’t get out, I would prefer to see us getting either Boniface or Dju in because that defence is going to ship some goals, one new face won’t be enough, we need to score more and create more chances and that requires forwards and midfielders that can carry the ball at pace.

  • David Green says:

We should have got him in pre-season. He was immense for U21’s and is a good captain alternative. Better than Kilman at almsot everything. Probably washing up and pruning roses.

  • Kenny Irons says:

If we can get Charlie Cresswell will be well happy.
He was one of stand out performers for U21s and offers us something we haven’t got at the moment, a CB who can head and tackle !
Come on West Ham, get this one over the line ! 👍

  • Selsdonhammer says:

Cresswell would be an upgrade on Aguerd and we would then have a centre back who is adept at actually heading the ball.

  • Billy says:

This would be a terrific signing. Forget about Aguerd it’s Kilman that must go . Awful defender who constantly puts pressure on his fellow defenders. Can’t jump or head the ball , has no positional sense and offers no help to the keeper.COYI

I agree Kilman is hopeless, no leadership, no determination no commitment how we paid 20x the cost of Craig Dawson I’ll never understand. Dawson was 20x the player and the epitome of the players you want at the heart of defence.
