£100m was a lot of dough but more needed this winter

Surely it’s time to wave him farewell

It’s not rocket science of course!

It was my good pal and Hammers fanatic Nigel Kahn at @mywhufc who mentioned it as we with others made our way to the PL game against Spurs a couple of weeks back.

He simply said: “It is intensely worrying that if anything happens to Arnautovic we are in real trouble.”

Like I say, not rocket science, but a problem again highlighted last night as the Irons struggled to convert chances during the match against Spurs.

It’s all well and good talking about the lack of a cutting edge as has been the case over recent weeks but the position up top continues to cause real concern.

Whilst most of us have been looking at the midfield issues over recent weeks we are struggling to find a striker who can hit the net apart from MA .

So what it comes down to is that despite spending over £100 million in the summer we are still light in the key area and that needs to be addressed in the winter window.

Some will argue that with Andy Carroll returning in November we may be ok until the summer but we have learned the hard way not to rely on the Geordie boy’s fitness.

There’s been a discussion over whether the club should exercise the option they hold on his contract. I hope not. I honestly think he’s had enough chances.

In my world there’s no argument about it –  we need a decent striker with a decent fitness record and a midfielder.

These are must have players this winter if they can be found but that we are talking like this shows the depth of the problems created down the years with the lack of quality in the squad.

£100 million was a lot of dough in our terms but once again the board will need to dig deep to solve a very obvious problem or two!

  1. Sort out central midfield in the winter and left back in the summer. Rice is looking better and better defensively but we need cover for him and we need two or three midfielders that can unlock a defence aswell as press for 90 minutes, they should be young not has beens.

  2. It’s quite obvious for me that before they buy or spend there is a lot of “dead wood” to be sold or to be got rid of first????? I bet every body who reads this has one or two ( to get rid of)? My list to go would be Hernandez= goal hanger brings nothing to the team £140,000 a week doesn’t look interested ? Carroll= for all the obvious reasons we’ve all heard the arguments about him but again a waste of money Next. Ogbona= the two players that have been brought in, show him up for the player he isn’t, Reid will be back soon as cover ? Be interested to hear other readers choices . We need a class holding central midfielder Noble coming to the end of a great career been a fantastic servant to the club but alas the years are catching up???
