Bottom three Hammers – the ratings so far

Seven games in and third off bottom with just four points and a series of sub-standard displays, individually and collectively beyond the Conference excursions which themselves haven’t been against anything like the best teams in Europe.

So how do we rate the Hammers who have played in those Premier League games – here’s Hughie’s ratings thus far:

Fabianski: Still the best of the two although there has been the odd mistake here and there. By and large, satisfactory. 6

Coufal: Looking a little better than his injury hit season last term but not the player who arrived from the Czech Republic and that crossing really needs to improve 5

Johnson: Currently injured but nothing more than average in the three games in which he has played 5

Cresswell: Looks to have reached his ceiling at the age of 32. Reasonably consistent without tearing up trees 6

Zouma: Good, poor and indifferent at times in a much changed defence to which it may not have been easy to adapt 6

Kehrer: Early days and there have been mistakes of course – unfair at this stage to judge over harshly perhaps but there may have been better out there 5

Emerson: Much to prove but apparently making himself influential in the dressing room 4

Fornals: When he has been good he is very good – the opposite is also true…still misses too many chances 5

Rice: Probably the best of a poor lot so far but inconsistent against the high standards he has set himself 7

Soucek: Is this his twin brother. Very poor passing too much of which is sideways and backwards whilst being perfectly capable of giving the ball away. 3

Lanzini: Entirely unpredictable and of little influence most of the time 3

Benrahma: Very impressive this season and along with Antonio  ( at times) probably our best attacking force 7

Paqueta: Hugely exciting signing but has shown very little so far and could easily have been sent off against Everton 3

Cornet: Really like the look of him – exciting and threatening 7

Scamacca: Shown us nothing yet -another wait and see job 4

Bowen: Incredibly disappointing given we know the real player 4

Antonio: Outstanding at times this season – the real Mikey is back 7+

DAVID MOYES

Too many words about what he is trying to achieve but so far little seen where it matters. Blaming players – as against Everton and Brighton in the final game of last season – is a little cowardly. Every manager can get it wrong and be prepared to say so. His substitutions are always so predictable coming between to 60th and 70th minute and he seems scared to drop regulars when they are under performing. Good performances against Spurs and Chelsea and of course can count himself unlucky but he knows surely he is the bloke responsible at the end of the day. 5

  1. Bowen , Paqueta , Rice , Zouma can and should be playing better along with the rest who need to run and show energy . We are slow to start games and need to be on it from the start . Moyes is protecting Scamacca too much , hoe can he get any rhythm if he only gets 20-30 minutes in PL . It’s all too slow pick it up lads .

  2. Running stats? Are we as slow and lethargic as we look? Can we do the sprints? Where is the young, strong running template he promised? We are going backwards, not fit and not effective.
