In case anyone missed it, the Carlos Soler situation heated up last night. West Ham United have been seemingly taking an age to get to the finish line on the 27 year – old’s move from Paris St Germain.
Now of course I understand the need to move players on, to make space in the squad and also to reduce the enormous wages bill to deal with PSR and Premier League earnings to income ratios. But news last night on ‘X’ from Florian Plettenberg (Sky Sports Germany) caught my eye as the Hammers seem to be dragging their feet over this move, which is oh so urgent if you’d seen the match against Aston Villa last weekend.
The simplicity with which our midfield was sliced open showed considerable vulnerability without Edson Alvarez. Soucek and Rodriguez simply did not work.
Last nights tweet /x from Plettenberg, Sky Sports’ Germany journalist, should serve as an absolute hurry up to West Ham if they don’t want to suffer what I’ll call a ‘reverse Todibo’ and have Soler stolen from under their noses.
The ‘X/tweet’ makes it clear that Everton are in touch with PSG direct over the Carlos Soler transfer and that their ‘interest is concrete’.
Now I ‘d hope that Steidten has everything under control because as far as I’m concerned the player being recruited by West Ham will absolutely finish off our transfer window in style. There has been a very uncomfortable couple of weeks whilst the negotiations have dragged on and that allows other clubs – like Everton, as reported, to get in on the act. YES the player has been withdrawn from tomorrow’s game – but with nothing signed, he could equally end up at Goodison Park as East London.
Remember, the Toffees have sold their own midfield maestro Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for £50 million- as we found to our cost last week – they will no doubt be relishing the prospect of picking up Soler for ‘just’ the rumoured price of £17 million.
Not time to panic, but time to keep everything crossed that we get the deal over the line now – instead of this becoming a deadline-day nail biter. Now of course I’m not naive enough to understand that sometimes these stories are ‘planted’ by agents or clubs eager to see negotiations speed up. I really hope that is the case here but Plettenberg doesn’t want a ruined reputation just by publishing heresay: Time to fuel up the jet, Tim.
And this news update less than an hour after Simon Leyland posted seemingly more positive news. You certainly can’t count your chickens when it’s West Ham, eh!
we seem to have been dragging our feet in order to get our own finances ready, on this Soler deal, for about two weeks. Which I understand after all we’ve spent.. Trouble is, it leaves us wide open to others getting on board.. let’s hope the Lopetegui factor helps Soler decide that WHU is the best destination for him
Dragging our feet? Any ideas of how we get Ings, Cornet and Zouma off the payroll? If it’s that easy have one of your mates who has contact with Sullivan pick up the telephone and tell him you have the answer. Sure there will be a few quid in it for you.
Rubbish. We have to sell players to get the finances right ? How do we speed that up exactly ?
My main concern was Soler being tempted by a return to Spain. Seems J-Lo has convinced Soler to join us so can’t see Everton getting ahead of us to secure his signature ✍️
And yet the press yesterday was full of stories with Dyche saying that Everton might still need to sell more players. Calvert Lewis was mentioned. Rather like West Ham, would like the player but need to get players out first. Soler I believe will come to West Ham, but the delay is on our side because of the money.
Everton pulled the same stroke to sign Onana a couple of years ago and they have just made a huge profit on him. I think that was also because we dawdled after everything was agreed.
When our bench warmers are earning £60k a week or more without kicking a ball why would they wish to leave. Not even risking getting hurt.
I remember us walking away from the Onana deal because of everyone piling into the deal looking for fees, most notably his family. It was difficult to get agreement on personal terms as well. Remember those ‘fees’ do not show up in the cost of a player. They bought him for around E40 million and sold him for around E59. A good profit I agree, but take all those fees off and hardly ‘huge’. And Everton, given all the dross they have signed, how to get one right eventually.
Why the hell would he want to play for Everton? A fine old club with a huge history, but facing a likely relegation battle and another points deduction.
No point getting all these players in if J- lo can’t find space for them …… they will all expect first team places not warming the bench …..
Let him go to the Toffees if he wants the money
How exactly are we dragging our feet ? Who wants to buy the fringe players exactly ? More clickbaitbtrash from this site.
you have lost him to 2 clubs pull your fingers out
This site is becoming a total embarrassment
