West Ham United are in the midst of a summer spending spree as manager Julen Lopetegui looks to bolster his squad for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The Hammers have already secured the signings of Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme, and are closing in on deals for Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug. The club’s attention has now turned to midfield, with according to a report from L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain’s Carlos Soler has emerged as a top target.

The Spanish midfielder’s creativity and versatility would be a valuable addition to West Ham’s midfield options. With the potential departure of Lucas Paqueta due to gambling allegations, Soler could become a crucial player for the Hammers.

Soler signed for PSG from Spanish side Valencia for €20m (about £17m) in 2022, starting 26 Ligue 1 matches across the two campaigns.

He ranks among the top 15% of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 15% for assists and the top 18% for passes attempted per 90, as per FBref, highlighting the potency he would bring to Julen Lopetegui’s team, instilling a new level of ball-playing quality too.

The club’s ambitious transfer strategy indicates a clear desire to challenge for European places and potentially even a top-four finish. Fans will be eagerly anticipating further developments as the transfer window draws to a close.

I can’t say it enough, I just love the calibre of players the club are attempting to recruit. Gone are the days where we settle for expensive cast offs from the top 4/6 clubs! In Super Tim, I do trust.

Yes, but we still have a very dodgy defence. Little has been done in that area, so far. I would like to see 3 quality additions there.

Things are starting to look up for us if we can get these deals done then we will be twice the threat that we have been so that’s all good but the defence still needs more improvement I’m sure that will be felt with soon hopefully before the season kick off COYI

If we get all the players that have been mentioned how would the club stand with the financial fair play rules.

I assume only the club’s accountants could answer that. But after seeing other club’s being deducted points for breaches of the rules, I’m confident that we would tread that line carefully.

Well we did not spend in the last window and much of the previous window was likely Rice money. Several of the players we are bringing in, the German for example, will be coming on relatively low wages for the PL. Rodriguez if he comes has no fee. Summerville looks both a decent price (the add ons are a little hefty), but he probably got a decent bump in wages without taking a high salary. Remember as well we’ve let several go. While the incoming fees might not have been huge the savings in wages will have helped. Oggys wage for example pays for the Getman’s. We still have time to let some go or loan out. Get towards the end of the window and the newly promoted clubs will start looking for experienced PL players to strengthen their squad’s with. The one unknown is Paqueta. If he gets banned and has no value – and we are still on the hook for transfer installments but not the wage, that might impact future windows.
