Bringing in a forward from the lower leagues on a hunch is not the conventional method to ensure a prolific goal scorer lands at your club.
However the successes when they come are pretty spectacular. Ian Wright, Jamie Vardy and Les Ferdinand all succeeded in the lower leagues before making it big: West Ham’s own Michail Antonio also plied his trade in the lower divisions via Tooting & Mitcham United then spells at Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest before arriving at West Ham.
So, news from ExWHUemployee that West Ham are taking a good look at Wycombe Wanderers’ striker Richard Kone could be seen as either necessity owing to financial constraints or a bit of ‘thinking outside of the box’.
Either way it is one interesting story. Just 21 and prolific in League One last season with 21 goals, West Ham are apparently considering putting in a bid to Wycombe for the forward.
The 6ft Ivorian won’t break the bank with a Transfermarkt valuation of £300,000 but with the right ‘add-ons’ could be very well worth a punt and good business for Wycombe too. Certainly a player who would add another dimension to West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug- only attacking line up.
And with such a modest fee involved, the downside is pretty minimal. Kone could very well be one to watch this summer.
Won’t be long before Wycombe will become a league game….
Mickey Mouse club these days…embarrassing
We could have prime Messi, Becks and Ronaldo but we still want SULLIVAN OUT
Luton had a 6mill bid for Kone turned down in the Jan transfer window.
This stinks of Sullivan/ Brady all over.
We have become a laughing stock in football unfortunately !
For every single vardy there are a hundred players who are nowhere near good enough and this bloke is exactly that, nowhere near good enough, he’s been prolific in a very poor league but his touch isn’t good, bringing others into play is also a very poor as his passing is way off premier league standard, his ability on he ball is also somewhat lacking. If this is the quality we are looking at then we have serious problems
Seen him play, overpriced at £300,000 steer clear
Yep steer Clear we need him next season
£300,000 Dream on we turned down £5mil from Luton in January
Other teams pick up potential We will pick up cheap to save money MARK MY WORDS
How about the best of the lot you missed? A bit closer to home as well, Alan Devonshire!! I think he fits in to that category!
You beat me to it.
How could they miss Alan Devonshire?!
