West Ham have reportedly set their sights on young Girona fullback Arnau Martínez as an alternative to long-standing transfer target Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Negotiations with Manchester United have been painstakingly slow, and recent failed negotiations with Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay have not provided any encouragement.

As a result, the Hammers are sensibly lining up alternatives for the problem position at right-back, with Martínez emerging as a backup option.

Martínez’s contract will expire in 2025, and the two parties haven’t been able to reach an agreement over an extension thus far. The Catalan side is also said to be furious that news of Martínez’s £20m release clause has become public knowledge.

Girona had an incredible season, surprising everyone by eventually qualifying for the Champions League. Martínez made 26 appearances across all competitions, providing his teammates with three assists.

The Hammers still hope that a deal can be agreed for Wan-Bissaka but the club are not prepared to allow the situation to drag on for much longer.

Now Sullivans favoured agent is involved in the AWB negotiations i suspect the deal will happen especially as he is also the players agent! but personally the way manure have been acting i would rather us go for this secondary target and stick two fingers up to them

West Ham should not be messed about by AWB or Man U just wipe your mouth and go elsewhere

If course they have. It’s excessive great. With one year left, AWB isn’t worth that much.

Martinez is a fantastic young player be bags of potential. I have seen him play a few times and he really catches the eye. Stong, fast and can whip in a good cross. Would love to see this guy in claret and blue.

Bring him in. Manu u keep cocking up our transfer windows. Time to tell them where they can get off. Plenty more right backs out there.

Martinez all day long, WHU type of player, no history, shenanigans and nastyness.

Dump the AWB saga for a team player!⚒️

  • Sean says:

Players who fail to make the grade at MU seem to think the club should pay them off, with massive sums and also expect potential buyers to match a MU contract salary. How much money do these footballers need ? A limited career span and although multimillionaires they would still rather sit on the bench than play every week for a miserly £80K per week at a smaller club ! We, WHU don’t need, or want AWB ! I would rather try a youth player or buy a Championship player……

i believe the release clause is 20m euro

also barcelona have him as a 3rd or 4th target to fill their RB option, reports of them considering an initial 10m euro bid

critically worth noting that girona are currently trying to negotiate a new contract with the player, with interest from other clubs his head might have been turned

reports are that lopetegui has already had multiple conversations with the player, for me that suggests the club are pretty much over AWB and targeting this kid seriously – another report suggests that a bid may have already been submitted by west ham

Nothing changes with man utd and there were problems with Erik ten Hag when Moyes attempted to sign AWB previously.
He wasn’t being played and Hag told him to find another club.
The saga then started, it was on then off, eventually Hag pulled the plug.
What is it with his transfer fee? £10m then £15m then £20m now £18m.
Man utd may be playing mind games but this signing has dragged on long enough.
Them dragging their feet is jeopardising alternative signings who may not be available later on.
This guy looks to be s better alternative as he has ability to play r/bk or c/bk.
What price do you put on versatility and he has age on his side.
