West Ham finally recorded their first home win since February and delivered a performance that suggests survival is still within reach. The win was more than just three points, it was a statement. Despite having limited possession, a hallmark of Nuno Espírito Santo’s tactical approach, the Hammers were clinical and purposeful. The Hammers registered some positive statistics – 1.67 goal threat, 15 shots and nine shots on target. I actually enjoyed watching the game!
These numbers reflect a team that, while not dominant in possession, made their chances count, a refreshing change from recent displays.
248 days, in fact, since the Hammers last won at home.
Following the game Nuno was visibly relieved and upbeat. He described the performance as a turning point, saying the team showed “character, resilience, and togetherness” qualities he had been demanding since taking charge. He added: “This win is a reward for the hard work the players have been putting in. We’ve been through a tough period, but today they gave everything.”
The fallout in Newcastle was swift and scathing. Local news outlets lambasted the Magpies for lacking “quality, cohesion or heart,” with one site branding Newcastle “abysmal.” Club legend Alan Shearer offered a more measured critique, describing his boyhood team as “lazy, leggy, lethargic,” before acknowledging West Ham’s deserved win.
This result could be the spark West Ham desperately needed. With Burnley up next, another side battling at the bottom the upcoming fixture is set up to be a six-pointer! COYI!
An almost forgotten experience of actually enjoying watching West Ham… long may it continue!!
So good to see , we need to beat Burnley ! They should beleve in themselves and work harder than the other team in every game . Will win more than we loose if we keep the same work rate and determination . Come on lads ⚒
Big improvement but we must not get carried away . Newcastle were awful and didn’t offer any threat through the middle of the park . Enormous improvement by the youngsters in midfield and having a recognised striker but any half decent attacking team will still rip the defense apart . Kilman is, and always has been, a liabiliity . I keep seeing comments about him being out of form . He has no form or scope for improvement . Terrible waste of money and one of the root causes of our dour defending last season and this .A centre back and goal scorer are a must on 1 January if we are to have any hope of survival .
