£29M Journeyman is all Wrong for West Ham

Alarm bells are ringing in my head with the news that West Ham are once again linked with Atlético Madrid striker Alexander Sørloth.

The big Norwegian’s representatives are reportedly looking to secure a move to West Ham in January, following serious interest in the summer.

Atlético paid £29 million to sign the La Liga player in the last window after his excellent season with Villarreal. However, he has been underwhelming this season under Diego Simeone, and he’s already being linked with a January transfer.

Sørloth was possibly West Ham’s fourth-choice striker in the summer, and I have to admit I was somewhat surprised that he signed for Atlético.

The towering 28-year-old is inconsistent, to put it kindly. While he may have enjoyed a great season in La Liga last year, one has to go back to 2019 to find the last time he regularly found the back of the net for Trabzonspor.

I wrote back in July that there was nothing in the player’s career history to suggest he was capable of delivering back-to-back prolific seasons so it’s unsurprising to see him struggling.

Why the Spanish club would offload Samu Omorodion and replace him with a journeyman is anyone’s guess. But the fact that Atlético are looking to part ways with Sørloth after just two months should be reason enough for West Ham to steer clear.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Does no one at the club know we need a young, strong, fast striker????? He’s too similar to Fullkrug, who granted we haven’t seen yet, but I have serious doubts is gonna be up to the standard needed to score consistently in the premier league

He’s old, slow and inconsistent , another donkey , but if he’s cheap Sullivan will authorize his purchase , this is still Westham and Sullivan will make Hamsy decisions .

He’ll be 29 in December. Agreed he’d probably fail in the Premier League with the pace being way beyond La Liga but he’s the wrong choice because he’ll have no sell on and will have wages inflated beyond most clubs outside of the Premier League making him another dead weight.
