It is difficult to remain dispassionate as the predators circle hoping to pick off squad members from amongst West Ham United’s relegated ranks. Just a few weeks ago Hammers fans still hoped for redemption and the likes of Fernandes, Disasi and Bowen staying at the club if the team somehow pulled off ‘the great escape 2.0‘ : Now the harsh reality descends as the first tranche of ‘leavers’ Disasi, Wilson and assistant coach Paco Jemez have already said their ‘goodbyes’ and headed off into the sunset.
Shortly to be followed, no doubt, by several others.
Having missed out on selection for Portugal’s World Cup squad, it’d seem reasonable to think Mateus Fernandes will be the first significant ‘done deal’ in June as Manchester United – amongst others reportedly prepare their bid for the Hammers’ ‘wonderkid’ midfielder.
As far as Crysencio Summerville is concerned, the World Cup tournament along with pre-tournament warm – up does present the Hammers with something of a challenge.
A good World Cup will enhance Summerville’s standing and his likely sale value
Few international players will be open to transfer discussions with the warm ups already underway and Netherlands, for example, play Algeria in four days time, on 3rd June with Summerville very much hoping to feature. Likely any domestic transfer deal will have to wait it until the finals are concluded.
His call – up for Netherlands has coincided with published interest from Liverpool for the first time, according to team talk.com, together with a jump in the likely price attainable:
“West Ham are expected to hold out for £35m before selling the 24-year-old this summer. If Liverpool or Arsenal can get Summerville back to his influential best, then that could prove to be a great price.”
Scant consolation for the club, losing such an entertaining player but if AS Roma, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool – all reported within the last 24 hours as ‘keen’ – pile in with offers, the final price for Summerville will end up well north of £35 million. Which will soften the blow for the West Ham board, if not the supporters.
Why are other comparable players so expensive, but when Hammers are sellers the fees quoted are always below market rate?
