£40m Brighton Battle For Kudus Replacement

West Ham fans hoping for a summer boost after the controversial sale of Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham may soon have reason to cheer, with 21-year-old Harvey Elliott firmly in their sights. But there’s a twist: at least four other Premier League clubs are now circling, and Brighton have surged into pole position.

Bookmakers William Hill have them as 7/4 favourites to secure the player, with Newcastle United next in line at 7/2.

The south coast club have been very active in the summer transfer window—raising €75.3m from player sales including João Pedro to Chelsea—and reinvested €80m so far, snapping up former West Ham targets Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiacos and Maxim De Cuyper from Club Brugge.

Liverpool are reportedly looking for £40m if a buy-back clause is inserted, rising to £50m for a permanent sale.

The 21-year-old impressed in the recent Euro Under-21s and is highly rated, yet with limited starts and the Merseyside club trying to remain compliant with PSR rules, Arne Slot may decide to move the youngster on.

Following the controversial sale of Mohammed Kudus to London rivals Tottenham, the signing of Elliott would be a shrewd move by West Ham and help win back fan support.

Getting the player in would show ambition and intent—whether the club can get this deal over the line remains to be seen.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

If he’s got any ambition he won’t come to us.

Can’t see us getting him but really like the lad. Has a Bowen like work rate and is a massive upgrade on Kudus if we can get him.

Not a chance. At most there’ll be another Duran “Ghost” bid – and he’ll be too pricy for us.

Lets see Brighton a well run club with direction or a total circus that has no clue what they are doing but we all know where we’re going!…That is a tough one now isn’t it

I can’t see for the life of me why Potters project or West Hams current state will appeal to Elliott, more than other Premier League clubs.

We have this grand idea to rebuild and bring in younger players, but we are not currently an attractive proposition!!

I doubt anyone believes our chairman will pay the asking price of get a deal done for Elliot, we would all welcome him though this has the feeling of most transfer news associated to West Ham and filed under good for recycling but f all else.

  • TommyD says:

Sign him with a buy back clause. Say £85million?! That way we can protect ourselves and sell him back for £55 million once he’s bored of playing in defence and hands in a transfer request

Look forget signing any top player with the silly little men and woman running our club We had a once in a lifetime success with David Moyes hes time was up YES But at the time we won our cup the board still didnt back him with signings for the future So next to no chance now

He;s from Surrey so I imagine the idea of signing for Brighton and being able to move back home may sway him that way
