700 extra seats would be created in London Stadium

London Stadium owners E20 have proposed a new configuration which squares off the front of the lower tier stands and brings supporters closer to the pitch in line with a more traditional football stadium configuration rather than the current oval shape.

The front rows in each stand behind goals will be significantly closer to the pitch but that will mean that up to 300 seats at the front would not be covered by the roof and hence potentially get wet if it rains.

The owners of these season tickets will now be consulted as it is important that fans in those seats are accepting of the possibility of getting wet. Supporters sitting in those 300 seats without a roof would have to agree they would not attempt to migrate to other areas if there was a downpour as this could cause safety issues.

The new seating configuration could be installed as soon as next season if the proposal receives the green light assuming a license is granted and it can be procured in time.

The new proposed configuration would create approximately 700 new seats between the two stands closer to the pitch but the capacity would remain at 60,000 even though the number of actual seats would total over 67,000.

  1. The front 10/15 rows, in ALL of the stands, already get soaked when it rains.

  2. There were 80,000 seats in the stadium for the Olympics……. what happened to them?

    • The lower tier lost 4,000 during the conversion going from 25,000 to 21,000

The upper tier which had 55,000 lost 9,000 seats in the transformation. These were lost from creation of the new roof -3000 (top rows removed), The a dition of the cut outs and areas for the new big screens behind the goals -3000 and the corporate area in the west stand -3000.

Although a number of 66,000 is often mentioned the real number of actual seats is a little over 67,000 but not all are usable

This will mean that the stadium will have over 67,700 seats but I doubt they could all be used at the same time
