Mikey Antonio update

Michail Antonio suffered no serious injury when leaving the pitch during the second half of this afternoon’s match against Brentford.

The Hammers hero fell awkwardly and appeared to have injured his hip before leaving the action but Claretandhugh has learned that the player was removed  solely as a precaution.

The buccaneering front man had provided one magnificent assist after shrugging 0ff the attentions of several defenders for Tomas Soucek’s winning goal.

He had again looked in outstanding form after arriving at the start of the second half as a sub for Sebastian Haller who himself was in good touch.

Such is Mikey’s injury history that there are always big worries when he appears to be injured but there is no problem on this occasion.

He came off 26 minutes before the end and was replaced by Conor Coventry and CandH received assurances  following the game that it was a “precautionary move” and that the player is fine.

  1. Saw the game, and we were poor. Same old lacklustre players doing the same old apart from a few. We really need some good full backs Fredericks is not good enough for the Prem, Creswell is past it. If rice goes we will be in big big trouble again. If selling Rice gives us ££s that’s a gamble because who wants to join a club when the problems we have on and off the field. My heart sank with what I saw today against a bright youthful Brentford side. I may be wrong but my head tells me different.

    • Brentford press from the front giving us little time on the ball something we don’t do with Haller in the side.

  2. It is truly great news to hear that Antonio didn’t receive an injury that will keep him out for any sustained length of time, more so because of the type of impact he made today which showed clearly what this team would miss without him.
It was a nasty challenge on him today and I suspect it was meant as he was starting to scare their defence.
Where you find a similar player like Antonio if he gets injured, I have no idea.

  3. Lets not read to much into a pre season friendly the players will not be going 100% that said we did not look good in the first half . We all know that players are needed for certain positions but it is not easy to off load players unless other clubs are interested intaking them.

  4. I didn’t watch the game (other than highlights) but was told it wasn’t great, thought the goals we scored were encouraging, Yarmolenko’s looked a typically high quality finish. After the midweek performances which were decent, it is hopefully good that the level dropped to encourage better ones prior to the new season starting. Genuinely hope we make an effort to sign Rico Henry and Watkins, we need some new blood to keep our edge.

  5. I think a bit more than just a precaution to bring mikey off. I watched the game and he could hardly walk when he came off. No way he could have continued in my opinion.
Don’t know why Moyes replaced him with Conor Coventry, would have preferred to see young striker xande silva given a chance to play in mikey Antonio’s role.
