Alvarez’ classy message surely means one thing | West Ham News

West Ham’s hasty midfield clear out continues apace as Edson Alvarez bowed to the inevitable and agreed to a loan and was duly dispatched to Turkish side Fenerbahce at the weekend.

Whist the Mexican International Captain has left the Hammers in a stew of their own making, it is a loan with a buy option only, not an obligation,  so he may, or may not be returning, Aguerd-like, in twelve months time.

The buy-out clause which the Turkish side may choose to activate is believed to be for some £17 million at the end of the loan. Steep for non-Premier League sides.

Alvarez himself took to his instagram account to post a classy message to West Ham fans- retaining dignity in spite of the questionable treatment he’s received from Graham Potter who pretty much made up his mind immediately regarding the Mexican and kept him away from his team selections from the moment he arrived.

As Alvarez’ message states: “I want to wish West Ham the best of luck this season. To the fans, thank you for your incredible support and passion” Full marks, Edson – how to manage an exit with dignity.

It also suggests ‘El Machin’ is well aware that in all probability he’ll be back at West Ham in June next year – most likely with a different manager to impress. So, unlike Nayef Aguerd’s ill-judged lengthy and gushing ‘farewell West Ham‘ message last year- before he boomeranged back – Alvarez is most certainly taking care not to burn his West Ham boats.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Can’t believe we let him go

Too hard for Pansy Potter, he is the hard man that every team needs. Let them know you’re there. Every team should have one and he’ll be sorely missed.

Why are WHU destroying themselves? Alvarez has his flaws but do we really think we can get a better player for less than 17M. No chance. If the rumours are true, soon pac will be gone for pennies and the loyal West ham fans will have been well and truly screwed over. We need to see some amazing deals for incredible players coming in to salvage anything positive from this window and the season ahead

Don’t expect Mourinho to pay the 17 mill. Much like Levy he’s too wily for Sullivan. He’ll end up getting him on another loan or drive the price rright down.

Agreed Martin – classy message from El Machin

I remember watching our 1-1 draw with Villa – our equalizer was a superb cross from Alvarez nodded home by Emerson

What did those guys do to get frozen out?

He looked slow for the EPL but….. he always gave his all. He wouldn’t have put up with the tappy nonsense the Chelsusa players were giving it in the half way line on Friday. He’s obviously a dressing room distraction but maybe because he’s passionate? All these ‘great players’ before and after they arrive be at fault!!!

I can’t see Alvarez wanting to play in the Championship.
