West Ham United fans are facing a potential source of frustration in our upcoming match against Crystal Palace. The appointment of Rob Jones as the referee for the game has sparked concerns among supporters due to his controversial officiating in previous encounters.

Hammers supporters will remember the last time Jones took charge of a West Ham game, it was away to Newcastle

It is regarded as one of the worst refereeing performances  in Premier League history. The controversial penalty calls and perceived bias against us left a bitter taste in the mouths of supporters.

Arguably, that game was the start of the beginning of the end for David Moyes.

The Hammers will be hoping for a more impartial performance from Jones in the Crystal Palace match. However, the referee’s history suggests that there is a risk of further controversy. West Ham fans will be closely watching Jones’ decisions throughout the game, and any questionable calls could further fuel their frustration.

The appointment of Jones adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already highly anticipated London derby. The Hammers will need to focus on their own performance and avoid letting the referee’s decisions derail their momentum.

We lost to Newcastle because of David Moyes incompetence in managing that game. It’s all too easy to blame the referee. If we are good enough then we will win.

There’s often an article on whichever rogue ref we have for the coming game and so I agree Hammeroo. Reasons for any bitterness is often down to either poor team or manager performances.
Referees make mistakes but unless it’s repeated and always against us there really isn’t a point to reporting.

I could not disagree more with your take on that Newcastle game.
Moyes, for all his faults, was ‘managing’ that game superbly, until Mr Jones decided to give the home team a dubious penalty, disallowed a seemingly good West Ham goal and then gave the most ridiculous foul against Kalvin Phillips, who was being fouled by ‘serial diver’ Anthony Gordon, for a second penalty!
A Geordie mate of mine even acknowledged the poor refereeing decisions, said he was embarrassed to have won that game that way.

  • Timco says:

The appointment of the inept Jones & the serial diver Eze & master diver Ayew is a recipe for disaster for us.

Diving drives me to distraction too. I expect some Palace fans will be worrying about Pac-Man not managing to stay upright.

Three key points come out of the above discussion: –

1/ beware of impartial refs. How are they allowed to get away with it?

2/ managers/head coaches can have bad games as well as players. This includes Loppety Guy.

3/ Cheating players are a long-standing bane of our beautiful game

1 should be dealing effectively with 3.

2 we just have to live with. It had applied to even the greatest managers football has ever had. And no manager lasts for ever. They all run out of steam one way or the other and have to move on and make way for somebody else .

The two penalty decisions were atrocious and Rob Jones is particularly bad within a bad bunch but I doubt very much Newcastle would have been in our area that much in the last 20 minutes had Moyes not made the ridiculous changes he always did to go even more defensive than his usual set up. For the last 20 minutes we set up to defend on our own 18 yard box and invite wave after wave of pressure with a defence at that point who had already shipped more goals in a league season than ever before so why he thought going defensive would see the game out beggars belief. Just glad he has gone and despite last weeks defeat I left the stadium having watched better football, higher pressing and a game that looked like there was a plan other than soak up 70 minutes of pressure and try and nick a 1-0. I think this week will see the introduction of the new players and totally different out come.
