A deal the board needs to snub

Kalvin Phillips is quality but it’s a deal the board surely need to snub!

A deal the board needs to snub

The Hammers are known to be looking hard at the defensive midfielder but frankly Moyes‘ and the board’s interest dumfounds me as things stand.

Manchester City want a loan fee of a reported £7 million whilst the player’s wages over three months would run out at another  £1.5 million.

This is a huge expense for a player who has made just four Premier League appearances this season and indirectly would be using the Hammers as a get match fit operation for several games. He only made 12 appearances in the PL last term.

Beyond that, why we would need a defensive midfielder given the superb start to life Edson Alvarez has made at the London Stadium us hard to fathom.

Given that Pablo Fornals will soon be moving on and, with any luck Said Benrahma too, surely it is attacking midfielders we need. Phillips by the way has scored just ONE goal in three seasons which is pretty lean even for a defensive player.

If the Hammers can get City to pay a substantial – or even half of the players personal package – maybe it could be  but as things stand it really isn’t a very short term deal that appears to be in the Irons best interests.

This one’s goy Moyes’ name all over it – complete waste of money. Tim Steidten is better equipped to handle transfers and I suspect he doesn’t want a bar of this one, albeit it’s a loan deal that’s involved. It’s just all too much of an expensive risk. It’s a NO from me!

I for one think this would be a good deal
We sorely missed Alvarez against SU and even when he’s fit, they both play. Allow JWP to move further forward and unleash some creativity
Is it a priority position, no, but would it be a good signing, I think so

Will be interesting to see how this plays out, looks like we have him, it is a statement but despite JWP being lauded I don’t think other than his set pieces and press comms he is doing enough and we could do better, both of these are Moyes signings, the kid at Genk Mandela Keita looks pretty special, reminds me of Rice the way he reads the game and can spray long raking crossfield passes. He certainly looks more of a Steidten player, I also really hope we sign the left back from L’Orient Bradley Locko and Ibrahim Osman, not sure about the CF we have been linked with Albert Gudmondson, he is strong and maybe as a back up but doesn’t look like he can head a ball wihich in a Moyes team is a prerequisite.

It’s a gamble but only commits us to end of season. We need an option to Soucek plus recent injuries show how vulnerable we are if anyone gets injured. The combined work of Moyes and Statden has worked out well so far and I can see we are building a more attack minded team
