West Ham United’s Lewis Orford and Josh Ajala have been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August.
The Hammers are tied at the top of the PL2 table after three matches, sharing the spot with Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, who also have two players each nominated. All three clubs have identical points and goal differences.
Orford, fresh off signing a new five-year contract, has been a key figure in West Ham’s impressive start. He’s played every minute so far, assisting both goals in their 2-0 season-opening win against Brighton & Hove Albion, adding another assist in a dominant 5-1 victory over Southampton, and captaining the side in a 1-0 win against Norwich City.
The young midfielder will be absent for the next three weeks following a minor injury but is thought to be recovering well.
Ajala, who made his PL2 debut against Brighton, has adapted quickly to the U21 squad. The 17-year-old striker has scored three goals in three matches, leading to his call-up for England’s U19 squad under Will Antwi, where he made his debut in a 2-2 draw against Italy.
