Diarra (1)Former Hammer Alou Diarra  has joined Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.

He has been without a club since leaving West Ham in July 2014 after his contract was mutually terminated. Diarra joined West Ham United on a three-year contract in August 2012, for a £2.5m fee on £40,000 per week. He played 14 appearances in a West Ham shirt.

Head Coach Guy Luzon told  the Charlton website “He will add some height, experience, and most of all, quality to the midfield, we lost Milos [Veljković] to injury and Johnnie Jackson is out for a month, so he will help us to bring results and more points. It’s a coup for us that we can attract a player with so much international experience and I’m sure he will be fantastic for us.”

Diarra is believed to have been paid off around £1.5m of his £2m wages to leave West Ham early.
