As if a relegation battle wasn’t tough enough with a full contingent of players. Nuno Espírito Santo is now going to have to do without his talismanic ‘Number 10″ who will be suspended for the trip to Old Trafford on Thursday after two yellow cards in quick succession as the red mist descended against The Reds yesterday.
The one game suspension is mandatory after two yellows leading to the red card for dissent: But that is unlikely to be the end of the matter.
The FA are likely to increase the punishment, according to ex PGMOL chief Keith Hackett.
Speaking to footballinsider247.com, Hackett, a former FIFA referee, believes whilst the official could have diffused the situation, Paquetá will not escape with just one game on the sidelines:
“Self-discipline is so important in a referee and a player. He’s clearly dissenting, but it does take two to form an argument.
“The referee hangs around. Give him a yellow card, then get the hell out of there. He’s not going to continue the argument if he’s not there. What you do is run alongside the captain, once the game has restarted, and tell him to calm the player down.
“The referee just stands there, handing out the yellow before another one. Then what you see is the player applauding the referee. He’s going to get an additional sanction for that.“
Which will go down like a cup of cold sick at West Ham HQ, with the challenge tough enough just at present even with a full compliment.
Having had the ‘opportunity’ to watch the incident agains this morning, one player who does emerge out of the sad incident with credit is youngster Mateus Fernandes. At just 21, hardly a senior in the Hammers squad but he was at least attempting to intervene and deter Paquetá from continuing his kamikaze course. Unlike others who just stood around watching in disbelief as the incident unfolded.
Martin, are you serious! his a liability should have been drop weeks ago, he will not be missed, if Nuno does the right thing and play Earthy, but don’t bank on it, he is slowly losing my support with his defence tactics, Moyes mark2
Give Pagueta a 10 game ban for all l care
Perhaps it’s all part of the plan for when he sues the FA. His post game media suggesting he’s mentally damaged by their botched investigation and his reaction is part one of proving they messed his head up.
Personally I think his reaction was embarrassing much like the rest of his theatrics when on the pitch, especially yesterday after the announcement about the legend Billy Bonds passing. COYI
On a slightly brighter note, Areola and Potts played well, Fernandes was excellent and surprisingly, Fullkrug and Guilherme, although only on for a relatively short period, were certainly more encouraging than the last time out.
Not having Paqueta is not a punishment. We would be a better team without him.
Stupid behaviour, no need , he should be better than that , not good enough . He needs to step up and show what he can do with his feet not his mouth !
Much is said of how talented Paqueta is , but it’s rarely on display . His first season was good and then nothing but prancing drama ever since . His careless losses of possession cause more problems than the occasional goal contribution that he makes . I’m tired of all these overpaid prima donnas who don’t care at all about Westham . Westham are an amateurishly run club destined for failure unless some professionalism is introduced soon . Sell Paqueta ASAP because mentally he’s already gone .
FA might take the opportunity for vindictive infantile revenge on the man who made them look so clueless for a couple of years.
Sweet. This will go some way to show the ungrateful little so and so who is in charge.
Can’t wait for the next time he demonstrates disappointment at a refereeing decision. FA rules OK.
Ignore Hackett
He’s a w*****r
Alison made more an effort to remove Paqueta than the majority of WHU players, including Captain Invisible. Referees are supposed to be above the fray, yet…
Bad day yesterday…
Billy Bonds was a childhood and teenage hero and his passing has hit hard. RIP Bill.
Did we have an effort on target ? I don’t remember one is dire if I’m remembering correctly.
The Paqueta incident was plain insane, unable to get my head around it.
We really do need a boost from somewhere.
