Agreement Reached: Potter Offered West Ham Job

West Ham have held meetings with Graham Potter today, and he has agreed in principle to take over as head coach should the position become available soon. Potter was pictured with Hammers director of football Tim Steidten earlier today, but it is also understood that discussions occurred at all levels as the club prepares to replace Julen Lopetegui.

Everything is expected to be resolved within the next 24 hours if all goes smoothly, although it could take a further day to finalise the details. Nothing is guaranteed until Potter signs a contract, and this will only happen after Lopetegui is relieved of his duties.

Some reports suggest Potter has asked for 24 hours to consider the short-term offer on the table although this has not been confirmed by any of C&H’s sources.

As reported by Claret & Hugh this morning, a decision had already been made to replace the head coach, with a top source revealing that Lopetegui would be sacked before the next Premier League match against Fulham. This contradicts earlier reports that the Spaniard would be given three more games to turn things around.

Talks with Potter are now well past the advanced stage, and he has an offer in front of him with agreements between the two parties on contract length, salary and staff.

Potter will reject a 6 month contract Quite right to Look what Sullivan did to Moyes Replaced him after saving us from relegation

  • Martin61 says:

As usual when changing manager, Sullivan lacks class. Having so much in the public domain is just wrong. It’s not right for anyone. It’s not what he is doing, it’s how he is doing it.

It seems to me as soon as Steiden is barred from the dressing room, the manager in charge is finished…Watch your back Mr Potter!…I dont know of any other club that washes its dirty underwear in public for all to see….Yes Loppy has to go…But lets be honest he should have gone at the first international break…The board are responsible for our current league position..They messed up with this appointment.

  • Phil Baker says:

Potter has discernible tactics as opposed to the incomprehensible tactics of Losepetegui . If Potter’s not ready for Villa my cat can be caretaker coach and make more sense than Losepetgui . Sack Lopetegui now . .

  • Jellied Eel says:

If this happens the London Stadium can be renamed Potter’s Field, the graveyard of all our hopes.

  • B says:

Heard Moyes say he doesn’t agree with that sort of clandestine meeting with a manager behind the existing manager’s back stuff. Wait till the job is vacant. Obviously Potter has no such qualms.

And Devonshires serious knee injury was in that match too – never the same player afterwards.
By the way I was given the video of the match by Brian Blower, interested in buying it?

    • Mgbell says:

Devonshires injury was later against wigan in 1984/5

I’d be interested if you’ve got any old Rolex watches.

Alan Devonshire’s serious knee injury was in an FA Cup tie vs Wigan Athletic at Upton Park in January 1984. He came back a different payer for sure, but no less effective even though he adapted his game accordingly.
I was at the Wigan game. It came a few months after the 10-0 victory against Bury. I was there that night as well. Devo scored two goals.

I suppose any one is better than what we have but i dont think potter is as good as he thinks he is

    • Mr T R says:

Graham Potter has the reputation of being a really good, tactically aware coach, who likes to play free flowing attacking football. A couple of his old Brighton players have commented that they’d never known a passing game such as when he was there.
However, Potter apparently ‘lost the changing room’ at Chelsea when he tried to change things during his 31 games in charge between September 2022 and April 2023. Such as the length of his contract, Potter is still being paid by Chelsea!!
Rest assured, Annette…. he IS better than what we’ve had over our last 20 games!!
