Aguerd confusion cleared up

Late fears that Nayef Aguerd’s move to West Ham has been hijacked by Newcastle appear to have been allayed.

The Irons have tabled a bid for the Rennes defender in the region of £25m but last night CandH learned that there was interest from Newcastle which could have led to the deal being hijacked.

It has since emerged that Newcastle had missed out on two central defenders and had turned to Aguerd as their third choice.

Meahweile this afternoon there was confusion, with the media grapevine buzzing, that the central defender had not arrived at Rush Green as expected.

The belief was that he no-showed an appointment with the club’s media team today but the Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg has since reported that he is in London and is set to undergo his medical ahead of completing the move.

West Ham have been chasing a deal for Aguerd for over a month and have long been confident of beating the likes of Sevilla to his signature.

It now appears that he will be completing the move to the Irons, barring another late twist.

  1. All these “imminent” announcements, but does anyone else get that “I don’t really want to go to West Ham” feeling about all these delays?

  2. It certainly feels like other clubs don’t get the same rumours, stories and other such stuff around the transfer windows. This has improved under Moysie but hadn’t gone away. Maybe due to the fact we have more than our fair share of Hammers fans in the media world……which is not a negative, but perhaps means there are more ‘rumours’ that do the rounds.

Hopefully it is just that and not a reluctant player signing for us.

  3. No, because only our fans seem doggedly determined to believe any bad news about the club. Some just sieze on any negative and blow it out of proportion because that gives them a stick with which to bash the board some more. it’s getting beyond a joke the number of anti club comments on home sites. There’s certain people who only ever comment if they can criticise. Not even sure some are even West Ham fans. COYI

  4. This Lad has had more touch and go’s than the Calais Ferry
