West Ham boss David Moyes has given an update on Nayef Aguerd who hobbled off after being injured whilst making a retrieving tackle in the first half of last night’s game against Glasgow Rangers.
Until then the £30 million central defender had looked in decent shape but his loss of the ball and attempted recovery caused damage which hopefully won’t keep him out of the first Premier League game of the season against Manchester City.
He was replaced by Issa Diop, who of course has been at the centre of transfer speculation which may now be put on hold should the injury to Aguerd prove more serious than expected.
Moyes, in the meanwhile, has revealed that early checks show no break in the ankle which was damaged during the unfortunate incident.
Speaking after the game the manager said: ” We’ve already had Nayef x-rayed and there’s no break in his ankle, which is good news.
It might be some ligaments, or he’s twisted his ankle – it blew up immediately so we have to hope it’s not a problem.”
As is usually the case the player is set for a scan.
Sadly his poor attempt at control was indicitive of last nights performance.and led to the injury Complacent, and lacking any sharpness whatsoever. throughout the team. We cannot start the season with the same 11 as last season. It is all too cosy and has no competition for places other than at centre back
It was a tackle he seems to make quite a lot, but hopefully just a sprain.
On the bright side, Issa Diop put in a great performance when coming on. It begs the question, why would we want to sell him?
I honestly saw no difference in the performance between the two players and if truth be known, it was a mistake by Aguerd that led to the injury – just saying
