According to our man in the know Sean Whetstone , Aguerd is digging his heels in and refusing to join any of the sides who have made offers for him as he holds out for a bigger club.
“The departure of Nayef Aguerd is looking more and more less likely this with the club in the dark what will happen,” Whetstone said.
“There have been plenty of offers but the player appears to need holding out for a bigger club. There is around £15m of amortisation left on West Ham books which is the minimum they would accept but a loan with a obligation or option to buy is also a possibility.
“Aguerd was initially signed by West Ham in 2022 for £25m plus up to £5m in add-ons.”
West Ham really need to sell Aguerd to free up funds for other signings. However, the club must act quickly to find a suitable buyer before the transfer window closes. Real Sociedad, Villarreal, and Al-Ittihad have expressed interest in Aguerd, but the defender’s decision ultimately lies with him.
It is difficult to understand his reluctance as he knows that he is not part of Lopetegui’s plans.
If he does go, it leave the Hammers with a potential problem. Their only first-team centre-halfs will be Kilman, Mavropanos, and Todibo, leaving them a bit light – and all it takes is a couple of injuries and they could be in real trouble. Perhaps they will put their faith in one of the talented youth players in the hopes that they will be sufficient enough cover.
Nevertheless a solution must be found quickly.
Alvarez has played as a defender, maybe that’s why they have no issues with leaving it late to source a replacement?
Exclude him from the 25 player squad and let him play in the lesser West Ham teams.
And that helps how with the wages issue?
Does the wages issue matter once the window closes? Maybe come January, and he’s played no football he’ll reconsider?
But it’s up to the club to find a solution. Bit late now
Aguerd possibly off to Fiorentina on loan
If you perform poorly you limit the size of club who will come in for you. His alternative to picking the best of those who are interested is to be behind Kilman, Mavropanos and Todibo in the pecking order.
There’s always Harry Maguire!
Sense of humour bypass? hahaha
His agent needs to give him a reality check.
Big clubs aren’t interested as he’s a liability
Aguerd was looking good in the first half of last season…..A disappointment, maybe.- a liability is harsh. He lost his way through a drop in confidence. I’d like us to keep him, but he wants to go.
They say beggars can’t be choosers. However I am not sure if the beggar is Aguerd or West Ham United!
Assuming Zouma leaves for Saudi, if we also sell Aguerd that will leave us desperately short of cover at centre back with only Kilman, Mavropanos and Todibo. I can hear it now…. an injury to one of those and everyone will be up in arms complaining about the lack of squad depth. Doesn’t make sense unless we have another incoming centre back lined up?
We seem to be all midfielders now. No real centre forward (only Halfkrug), not enough CBs, and lacking a backup LB (unless using Aguerd there if he stays).
