Aguerd surgery may hand Ogbonna an unexpected return

West Ham’s £30 million signing Nayef Aguerd has received surgery for an ankle injury he picked up at Glasgow Rangers.

No time frame has been put on his return and the club are also keeping details of the injury under wraps after early reports that he could be available for the start of the season.

We were among those who claimed that could be the case and are sorry to have to apologise for that but are far sorrier for the player.

A statement on the West Ham website at www.whufc.com declared: ‘West Ham United can confirm that Nayef Aguerd has had successful surgery on the ankle injury he sustained in our pre-season friendly against Glasgow Rangers last week.

The Moroccan defender will now continue his rehabilitation at Rush Green with the Club’s medical team.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Nayef a speedy recovery.”

The news means there could be a far earlier than expected return for Angelo Ogbonna, the other left sided central midfielder in the squad, who looks likely to  cover for the new boy for in the early games of the  season.

Oggy has taken in an under 23 game during the last few days as part of his recovery programme and Craig Dawson is also expected to be available,

  1. Not to late to sign another Centre Half. Why not take this as a warning of the shape of things to come and prepare now ?

  2. The top clubs and their supporters don’t seem to have this One IN, One OUT type of mentality, because these clubs competing for titles and trophies understand that is ALL about the squad… and I’m sure Moyes understands this.
Who thought that Ogbonna’s game time would be wiped out, simply because we have brought Aguerd?
Injuries happen as we have been reminded and squad rotation is necessary for our challenges on multiple fronts this season.
