Aguerd: The very latest update

By Hughie Southon

Claret and Hugh has been told Nayef Aguerd is facing a late fitness test ahead of the match against Spurs tomorrow afternoon.

The central defender was thought likely to miss the game earlier in the week but the manager has not entirely ruled the Morocco international out of the game in North London.

Aguerd returned to training on Christmas Eve

The central defender has been in outstanding form since his return to the team after earlier injuries but was again taken off after damaging  an ankle against Chelsea last weekend.

With Kurt Zouma currently sidelined,  Aguerd’s availability would be a major boost as Moyes looks for a way to quieten Harry Kane.

Aguerd missed almost the entire first-half of the season with an ankle injury picked up soon after his summer arrival from Rennes, but was outstanding for Morocco at the World Cup and, when fit, has shown similar form for the Hammers since.

In an update on his position tonight a key Hammers source told us: “Nayef is fifty fifty and will be tested late. However, Zouma will not be ready for a week to a fiorthnight.”
