Alphonse Areola financials revealed

|

Reports from France claim to reveal the financials of West Ham’s loan of PSG goalkeeper  Alphonse Areola.

The WynFoot.Fr report reveals that the Hammers paid a two million Euro loan fee (£1.7m) with an obligation to buy between 12 and 13 million Euros (£10.2m to £11m)   That obligation is said to be based on the number of appearances he makes although the exact number of games is not revealed.

It is also claimed that West Ham will pick up the majority but not all of Areola’s current PSG wages.

Multiple reports in France suggest the PSG shot-stopper earns between £120,000 and £160,000 per week with L’Equipe saying he earns 700,000 Euros per month or 1750,000 Euros per week which converts to around £149,000 per week.

Last season Fulham were said to have paid an unspecified loan fee plus £75,000 per week of his wages with PSG picking up the remainder.

With those numbers in mind, it is clear he has not been bought in by David Moyes to be an understudy to Łukasz Fabianksi.

If there is an obligation to buy at the end of the season he must have accepted a lower wage to sign for us permanently next summer, maybe a heavily incentivised deal was offered.
Imho there is no way Sully would sanction a deal matching what he is already on & making him our top earner. Apart from anything else, a move like that would cause serious problems in the dressing room.
To have any hope of keeping Rice at the club I would expect the club will need to make him our top earner..
