Ever since I heard that Edson Alvarez was being ‘rushed’ back to fitness and actually played the last 20 minutes of West Ham’s match at the week end, I’ve had a little nagging worry that this was all happening for a reason before the end of the transfer window.

Manchester United have long been interested in ‘El Machin’ and when The Irons were linked strongly with Carlos Soler having already acquired the services of Guido Rodriguez on a ‘free’ I began to put two and two together with alarming consequences – Is Avarez still -despite all the comments to the contrary – headed off to Old Trafford this week?

News today which will go down very well with West Ham fans who saw how well Alvarez steadied the Hammers’ ship at the weekend. BBC Sport are reporting today that The Red Devils have agreed a fifty million euro deal to sign their new midfielder, at the same time allowing Scott McTominay to leave. But the best bit is the identity of their new recruit is Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte from PSG.

With the news that one time Hammers’ target Scott McTominay’s departure for Napoli has been sanctioned, worried looks would have been exchanged between Irons supporters concerned that the rumours of Alvarez heading off up north might have been about to come true.

BUT it looks pretty certain that Eric Ten Hag has made his choice, and thankfully for those of us who value Alvarez, he’s chosen Ugarte. This brings his spend at Man United to over £600 million! Hopefully, now they will leave Alvarez well alone, after deciding on their younger Uruguayan International to fill McTominay’s boots.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

This is not even a story!!

  • Rob says:

He is too valuable to let go – especially to MAN U – he will not be traded this summer

    • SJ says:

He will only disappoint at man U
anyway, will be seen as another base salary player only in it for the money (another mate for Anthony, Slabface, Sancho etc).. The Irons should be seeing themselves as rivals with Utd nowadays, not a feeder club anymore… FOREVER BLOWING..MJ’S MONKEY’S

Stupid, nonsense and waste of time article Martin.
Must try harder to be relevant

Absolute crap, you know it, I know it, so why repeat the rubbish others write in Hammers News.

120+ million and I’d say ‘bye’.
Any less, unless there was a substantial sell-on clause, then f-off.

  • B says:

With PSG losing a central midfielder, will they be happy to lose another in the shape of Carlos Soler?

    • Martin Treasure says:

Good point, Brian..Soler hasn’t been in the squad but I will have to go take a look at their midfield options now..

    • Ian says:

Different type of player I think. Ugarte is a busy, ball winner a la Ngolo Kante. Soler is a more attack minded midfielder.

Simon with the usual click bait headlines…I didn’t even need to read it to know it would be about man utd actually agreed a fee with another midfielder. So alverez is more than likely staying..another nonsense article
