Amazing Areola proves a huge bargain

Areola

By Hughie Southon

We can’t let the Man City game pass without a serious word on behalf of David Moyes in stepping Alphonse Areola up to the player this season.

Fab had a moan- up at the way it had been done earlier on but some of us are being forced to eat humble pie in and towards our attitude towards the boss.

He always spoke of his faith in the then No2 keeper but as on various occasions previously with players kept him waiting a fair old time for his chance.

And this season he has been rewarded by watching the France international produce some magnificent saves capped totally by his performance against City yesterday.

We have quite rightly received much praise for our performance against an amazing City side but Areola produced a man mountain performance to actually keep the score down.

Without him in goal – and no disrespect to Fab – it could have been a whole lot worse.

At a price of around £12 million he is proving himself to be one of the biggest bargains in the Irons side.

He has not done enough for me to be described as amazing. I thought he was at fault for the silva goal, to me it looked like he did not command his area and come out and deal with tge bouncing ball. I have reservations but lets see but one thing for sure he has deserved his chance. So too do other players btw.

So can we expect City and Newcastle to be tapping up Areola as well now?
