Amid the doom – a message of hope

We’ve had dire messages coming out of West Ham all week – nothing much changes really in our world. There have been rumours of sackings and player disenchantment but in this blog, CandH follower John Tyler, issues a reminder of what can happen when all appears lost!

By John Tyler

To all you doom mongers, let me remind you of season 1985-86 when we only just lost out to being the CHAMPIONS by a very small margin, after the first nine games.

In 1985 the Club had 10 pts from two wins, four draws and three losses, yet after nine nine games this season we had 12 points  so let’s not get over worried at this stage but wait instead until Christmas.

I have been supporting the Hammers since 1960 and have seen it all – highs, lows relegation and promotion and I think we will ride this storm and come back strong.

Maybe, just maybe  we will end up as high as 1986 but if not, then in the Europa league places and an F.A.Cup win to boot.

Tell l me I’m an optimist but I have had a bet that we win the F.A. Cup this season and finish in the top seven so come on you Irons prove me right.

  1. What ever you put on your cornflakes I want the same 😊!!

    • Yep, nice thought, John – but we’re in serious danger of relegation this season.
Never seen “walking football” played in premier league until West Ham, this season.
’85 was a very good team – Mark Ward was my favourite player.
Even then, we had thin squad, though, and relied too much on McAvennie and Cottee for the goals. Then, in the Summer we didn’t strengthen squad ( where have I heard that before) got a couple of injuries to key players and struggled the next season.
      Same old………….

  2. You are definitely an optimist.
That team had direction, pace were strong willed , aggressive and entertaining.you turned up every week expecting to win.
I can’t see any comparison to this team in any way whatsoever.
But I so wish I could.
