Huge Positive For Hammers Has Been Completely Forgotten

Surely the performance level won’t get any lower than yesterday. We all feel bruised and beaten up after the trouncing delivered by Arsenal. This must be the nadir for West Ham United fans, because we bought into the false hope from the result but more specifically the manner in which West Ham beat Newcastle just five days before.

It seemed there was a fighting spirit and cohesiveness in the team. Wrong. The first 30 minutes against Arsenal blew that optimism out o the water, reminding me of the phrase “it is the hope that kills”.

However – the team and head coach need to pick themselves up quickly because there’s another ‘must win’ match – the latest in a series of ‘must-win’ matches coming round in less than 3 days time.

And there’s a very big positive for West Ham United fans.

Returning from a five game ban, in a normal club during normal times, a player might be forced to sit on the naughty step and wait for his manager to introduce him back into the side after a due period of ‘penance’ waiting on the substitutes’ bench. But these are not normal times and this is far from a normal club.

Julen Lopetegui is a head coach fighting for his career and his reputation: Oh the delicious irony of having to call on Mohammed Kudus as his saviour to re-ignite West Ham’s performance against Leicester City on Tuesday.

It was Kudus who squared up to Lopetegui after being substituted against Brentford and apparently getting blasted by his coach for being too selfish: Now it is Lopetegui who must go to the Ghanaian on bended knee to try to inspire a return to form which, at its best, would simply blow Leicester’s defence away.

Kudus is back from his 5 game ban for Leicester – will he be Lopetegui’s reluctant Saviour?

I bet Lopetegui is going to put Kudus’ name straight back onto the team sheet for whilst he is stubborn he is not stupid.

If he’d just see the light and play him centrally alongside Bowen on the right and Summerville on the left in a 4-2-3-1 formation, he might finally surprise himself (and us!) and find a combination to ignite West Ham’s season and save his job.

Speak for yourself Martin, you may have bought in to the false hope and there were plenty of others with you, but there were also many of us that didn’t. There is only one solution to this problem that will get everyone pulling together and that is to accept a poor choice of coaching team was made, get rid of them and start again.

Anybody who has – Coufal, Soucek, Rodriguz, Irvine and Ings on the pitch at the same time in a competitive Premier League game against Arsenal, as that bloke Brian out of the film Braveheart said -” he isn’t right in the head”

  • Bill Ryan says:

The question is what position knowing the way lopetegui brain seems to work wouldn’t surprise me if he puts back on the left wing, he shouldn’t because summerville has made that slot he’s own , but this is lopetegui who’s ideas defy logic

Agree he needs to be gone now, as for tim you can’t blame him for the manager he did not choose the idiot that was Sullivan doing, so give Tim some say in the manager then there is no hiding for Tim. The players we have is good enough for top 6-7. A descent manager would have them cooking plus add a couple of players in Jan and get 2-3 off the books and I think we will finish well. Leave it too late and we will finish no higher than 15 place.

LOSEpetegui is a clueless idiot out of his depth in the big league . Unfortunately Sullivan is too old and proud to sack him even after conceding 5 goals in the first half . A fourth tier team would have been embarrassed with that non-performance . So now if Westham fluke a result against Leicester we have to suffer another 3 games of wasted opportunity and then limp on again and again and again which weirdly suits Sullivan because he can avoid sacking him for as long as possible .

Lepetgui should be given yhe whole season and by then if he needs to go then we can have a decent proven premier league coach ready to take the rains im early May.
Whatever you crazy kids think we will not be relegated come may as there are teams so much worse quality of player wise than West Ham and by then we may well be in the european places, please do not go down the Avram Grant route its as lazy as jumping on the ” be careful what you wish for brigade” and does not serve any purpose except for feeding the naysayers on here, for goodness sake have some courage and it may well pay off as we can all see flashes of what this team can produce or get another coach in after giving Lepy a full season to sort things out, that is the logical thing to do and not the ill thought out knee jerk reaction brigade that dwell on here.

i agree with all you guys but still can’t help thinking Stiendten should also be on the chopping board after being given full reign anyone could get 3or4 right pulling names from a hat even though Sullivan is letting all the decent coaches pass us by for waiting to long

    • Ray says:

I agree, that’s a fair comment after all the fanfare of Tim’s arrival and the list of special modern day skills he brings to the West Ham table. I’m thinking that if Noble has been paying attention he might be worth a shot in that role. He loves West Ham and knows what would work without using an app.

    • Trevsheadwonthecup says:

Annette he wasn’t given full reign . He warned Sullivan off of lopetegui. And it’s strongly rumoured only 3 signings were of his choosing . This is all on Sullivan. Worst chairman in the clubs history and that includes uncle Terry.

The huge positive is that I believe that with half decent coaching and tactics the players are good enough for what we hoped for at the start of the season. I believe that a decent coach could knock us into shape relatively quickly.

  • Ray says:

Martin, you just can’t help yourself can you?
“He might find a combination to ignite West Ham’s season and save his job”. Why do you keep saying it? Does anyone, yourself included, seriously believe that his job is salvageable? If so, please educate me. What explanation would not only satisfactorily support his tactical decisions, his substitutions, his alienation of players and his general behavior, but also make you want to see what the hell he might do next. You would have to hate West Ham to advocate for that.

    • John Ayris says:

I never thought that he was the right appointment but I hoped. I gave him time. But the goofs and gaffes are epic. I cannot see any way that he can redeem himself is my answer to your question.

  • The optimist says:

The two goals we scored at four nil down showed fighting spirit to me. I really enjoyed those two goals it was like we were on the ropes, punch drunk and then we came out punching. Really looking forward to all the games now against teams in the bottom half.

    • John Ayris says:

That’s the irony of it, we were good enough to score two goals that Arsenal couldn’t do a first thing about. If we had been coherent throughout that probably would have been enough for a draw and possibly enough for a win. We do have quality in the players it’s the system that’s broken and that’s down to the coach.
