An embarrassing and indefensible Sullivan interview

David Sullivan’s decision to embarrass himself and every fan of the club with his entirely unnecessary talkSPORT interview begs yet another important question.

What did the players think of it all?

Why on earth Sullivan believed his declaration that he was becoming more miserable with every passing day would help anything is a question nobody will ever answer.

And discussing players who have failed to impact on the club over the last couple of years is hardly the sort of comment which will have them sweating their wotsits off.

But coming on top of Mark Noble’s angry tweet about the Diangana sale, retweeted before being removed by Declan with support from Seb Haller,  you wonder what on earth was going on in his head. Answer seemingly: Not a lot!

All he managed to do was confirm that Noble’s reaction was justified despite later reportedly holding peace talks with him. We lost a promising player for the sake of a few bob which he now admits he’s struggling to spend anyway.

I think if I – or any of you – were players at West Ham right now we’d fail to understand just where the club was heading and how we might be able to get out given we are apparently poverty-stricken.

In the past, we as a site have attempted to be supportive of all areas of the club but you can’t defend the indefensible

And for a club chairman to make such comments about the club so publicly was in our terms exactly that. Embarrassing!

We can now wait for fans of other clubs to take the right royal out of us!

He claims he’s finding life hard to handle. Well here’s a piece of news he may not be aware of …SO ARE WE!

  1. Wow – i take any comments about you being over supportive of the board back. In fact I am getting concerned you may be becoming too anti-board – just kidding 🙂

For me, the most annoying thing he said was that they’d tried a top a manager and director of football, because that what the fans wanted, and it didn’t work. Basically, he’s not accountable for anything that he has done.

    • As I said before AD. I have worked for him and walked out. However, I constantly try to be fair and tell the truth. This needed to be said from my point of view

    • I’m really upset and annoyed, how on earth do these people think that they can treat a once honorable Football club and turn it into a circus?
They should’nt be anywhere near WHU or any other company for that matter.
Absolute disgrace, go any now the 3 of you and let some credible people take over and rescue us before you run us right into the ground.

  2. As a season ticket holder in excess of 25 years what is the point. How embarrassing to have the owner complaining about the alleged cost of progressing in the ” league ” cup. What are we a low level non league side. Just go all of you and as for Gold his behaviour is worse as he allegedly is a life long supporter

  3. I applaud Hugh for changing his stance on Sullivan 100% the fans will change their opinion on Hugh if he carries on being honest about Sullivan. COYI

  4. Sorry I don’t get it all, and I know this might come as a sock to most of you. I watched it, there were things I was disappointed to hear as a fan but I believe the man spoke honestly and from his heart. I have to say the owners have tried to do the right thing for the most part. They have made mistakes but it has cost them a fortune. I think as a club we need to start getting together and backing the owners for the season ahead. I am still positive that we will buy at least two defenders and possibly someone on loan so if we get the right players I will be very happy. I really like the lad from St Etienne and I just hope this one will get over the line.

  5. He does not think before he speaks, plays DOF or throws the club’s money around -Brady is a walking, rent a quote for money ,hypocrite who’s idea of running the club is to deny the club’s fans a democratic voice.
The first year in the OS tells us all we need to know about Sullivan’s motivation – instead of building a team to make fans more accepting of their new home, he actually made a transfer profit and took out a large chunk of interest!
Every argument he makes, he virtually contradicts it immediately.
Sullivan was going to develop a proper scouting network and Brady was going to make the supporter group more democratic – none have been done – poor old David Moyes at home battling Covid and looking through videos for alternative players to sign!!
And all Sullivan wants to do is blame anyone and everyone and plead depression and poverty for all the mistakes others have made, whilst looking for a return of 10 to 20 times his initial investment!

  6. What footballer would want to join us after those remarks from our chairman.
Stupidity is putting his actions politely.

  7. 1. He is probably Narcissistic and we now ALL know that his is incapable of listening to Anyone apart from himself.
    2. This club is actually in trouble with an owner like him as he cannot see how badly he is running this club until this club hits the buffers.
    3. He IS destroying this club and we are ALL helpless captives.
    4. He has effectively turned this club into a laughing stock across the country amongst journalists and football fans alike.
    The List is Endless

But the strangest this of all, is that I still read posts from posters supporting him…. Now that IS Strange!

  8. Just more miserable excuses from a very poor leader of the club. there is always a BUT.
THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU. PERIOD.

He will never ever understand this.

Sell and go now. If you want to walk away with anything at all.

  9. I have no idea what to describe him as but all of the credit they bought when they saved us from bankruptcy 10 years ago has long been spent, he lacks almost all of the qualities required to lead any public facing role. He cannot open his mouth without first putting his foot in it, oftentimes as in that interview he manages to get both feet in mouth at the same time. Let’s hope he does the right thing and sells up for the good of the club.

  10. Time for him to stand down as Chairman, he is clearly not a well man. I cannot be angry with him, as I feel quite sorry for him. Time for someone to put a gentle arm around his shoulders and say, “come on old man, it is over, let’s go home “.
I honestly feel that this once great businessman may be moving towards dementia.

  11. Sullivan is depressed at the lack of transfer activity – we fans are depressed at the way that he runs the club. Moyes has said that he wants to get in 3 or 4 players but if he cant get the players that he wants then he will make do with teh players that he has – so the manager is being positive – the owner should just shut up and support him and try to get in teh players he wants behind the scenes

As another poster has said the goodwill that they generated when buying the club has long since disappeared

  12. It’s all about you,
    It all about you Davey!

  13. Actually I feel sorry for Moyes in all of this. Moyes has Everton in Europe for years on next to no budget then goes to Man U probably thinking he’s hit the big time, gets no budget. Goes to Sunderland no budget whatsoever. Comes to West Ham gets no budget but keeps us up. Gets kicked out despite of it and then has to watch pellegrini blowing the biggest transfer budget West Ham have ever had. Then comes back to find he’s being given no money by Sullivan yet again. Yet through all that moyes never moans he just gets on with it. He has faith in his own ability. Maybe he thinks he can get a tune out of the underperforming record signings at some point. I know we all hope he can.
