And it all starts again…..
Just a mere four weeks after our seemingly endless wait for a shiny, new trophy was finally ended, West Ham United start to get things rolling for the 2023-24 campaign tonight, when they visit Boreham Wood at Meadow Park.
Following our magnificent Europa Conference League triumph the Hammers enjoyed a well deserved, albeit short summer break, but now have returned to training and have their first game of their pre-season fixtures.
Having won the club’s first major silverware since our FA Cup win in 1980 , West Ham’s” feet up and watch the telly” rest period came to an end on Thursday, when the lads returned to training.
After their performance in Prague, where the Hammers defeated Fiorentina to win the Conference final, several of our players were then required to continue a seemingly never ending 2022-23 campaign by representing their countries in various Internationals, and not surprisingly those players will be given a well needed break.
The other members of our squad were back at the Rush Green training facility in midweek, to begin preparations for a season in which the Irons will take on the challenge of claiming back-to-back continental crowns by competing in the Europa League- I never thought that I would ever write something like that !
Without his senior internationals, who are expected to return in mid-July, our Supremo is also set to start life without our Arsenal-bound captain Declan Rice, as the veteran coach works overtime alongside Tim Steidten looking for candidates to replace our former talismanic skipper.
More than a month before our visit to the seaside to play Bournemouth in our first game of the Premier League campaign, West Ham’s warm-up game tonight comes before they head off on a tour “down under”. Whilst there, they will play A-League side Perth Glory before contesting a London derby against the Spuds.
This time last year, Moyes and co were also welcomed to Meadow Park by National League club Boreham Wood, where the teams played out , by all accounts, an entertaining 1-1 draw.
West Ham United possible starting lineup:
Areola; Ogbonna, Zouma, Cresswell; Benrahma, Fornals, Downes, Palmieri; Bowen, Ings, Mubama
Do you know where this match will be shown please?
As it will not be shown on TV, the official West Ham site will no doubt be covering in the form of a blog
Boreham Wood won’t allow it to be shown
