West Ham’s director of football, Tim Steidten, is set to win his power battle at the London Stadium, with Julen Lopetegui looking likely to depart.

The past week has seen in-fighting and squabbling within the West Ham camp, with a clique emerging loyal to Steidten.

It is understood that Jean-Clair Todibo and three others have all been outspoken this week in their dislike of Lopetegui’s tactics, making it clear their allegiance lies with Steidten.

Todibo and Lopetegui reportedly clashed at half time against Arsenal, a confrontation verified by numerous sources. The Frenchman was then instructed to train with West Ham’s under-21 team and is understood to be extremely unhappy with the turn of events.

Some players, such as Max Kilman and Jarrod Bowen, have done their utmost to support Lopetegui, but a less vocal group is quietly questioning his methods.

The club hierarchy seemed unaware of the escalating discontent within the squad until yesterday morning. They now appear to be exploring what precisely has gone wrong with the squad dynamic.

Steidten has reportedly made it clear through his media contacts that Lopetegui was never his choice and is said to have warned David Sullivan against appointing him. It now seems the German director of football will soon have a say in Lopetegui’s replacement and is feeding back reports of unrest to the board.

However, it might be wise for top figures at West Ham to listen carefully to sporting director Mark Noble, who is understood to have a more balanced view of the entire squad’s opinions. That being said, with the board currently split, there could yet be some persuading to do.

Either way, a large number of Hammers players appear to have lost faith in Lopetegui, though to suggest that nobody likes him would be inaccurate.

The circus that is west ham just continues and continues, is it ever going to end 🤦😞

    • Richard Williams says:

If they leave it too long the next poor guy won’t be having time to turn it round..ridiculous. If this was Sullivans idea for a manager maybe he should sell up before he destroys the team. I personally would put Mark Nobel in for the rest of the season as he would have the respect of the players .You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to sort this mess out.

  • Terry says:

Please for the good of the club hurry up and pull the trigger every week we are getting pulled closer to the relegation zone leave it to much longer it could be to late and we will be playing championship football next year and selling all the players

  • Wayne says:

The club is a mess and the players have been part of the problem, not the solution.

IF a new manager does come in and results and performances do get better, who really is to blame for the current plight. The manager or the players?

Player power only works if things change drastically.

  • Keith Jones says:

West Ham should get rid of both the manager and sporting Director as he is also responsible for some of the lack luster player WH have brought and waisted good money.
They should listen to Mark Noble more as he has a better understanding of the grass roots up to the top in WH ,plus he’s understands the players and their emotions and concerns. Sullivenò

You should concentrate on your own team before giving others advice get your own house in order!

  • Macephtopheles says:

Steidten should’ve had a say in who got appointed to replace Moyes anyway.

The fault is with Dildo Brother #1. The whole point of having Steidten as DoF bringing in players is so that he will be bringing them in for a coach who he has an understanding with and who he has faith in to utilise them properly.

It’s what happened with Leverkusen when he was allowed to bring in a manager he thought would work well with him and he brought in Xabi Alonso who took them from 2nd bottom to a 6th place finish (and European football) and the following season they went unbeaten bar the final game of the season.

So while Sully was busy patting himself on the back with his latest Annihilator Rhino Dong he forgot the key part of the DoF role should be to bring in a manager/coach where both would be working in unison.

Their allegiance should be to their employer. Steiden also has a responsibilty to support the club. Lopetegui shares this same responsibility and allegiance to the club. Julen did not inherit a full squad that were a complete and successful unit. It is difficult enough to create a team full of strangers or integrate new strangers into an uninspired side.

Everyone should be helping to make the dream come true and not shaking their heads and taking sides in an alleged debate. I hope that all will do what they can within their contracts of employment. Opinions on how things ought to go are for the TV people who live in a different world.

With any new manager that comes in, I think the first appointment they should make is to bring Kevin Nolan back to the coaching squad. It was evident he was a soundboard for the lads, fought their battles and everyone seemed to appreciate his candour.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Steidten seems to be tarred with the same brush as Loppy and it’s hard to understand why, for the first time in years we are signing our targets, he isn’t responsible for how the team play, that is the coach’s role and he obviously isn’t good enough at this time with those players. Not saying he is a terrible coach other players rate him but it isn’t working here, like others who have tried he hasn’t been able to get the team playing attractive football, Allardyce, Oellegrini and Moyes for example. I think it needs a big ego manager to force them maybe through fear to perform which would supposedly point at Conceicao if rumours of his aggressive nature are to be believed.

    • Matt says:

The anti Tim rhetoric is normally top sources and leaks from within the club.

It’s not hard to understand who and why these stories keep occurring. When the heat is on the board they normally look to scapegoat others for their own errors.

  • Brian Adams says:

    Thomas frank. Enough said

  • Annette Markham says:

Players and fans We cant ALL be wrong
On this occasion i actually agree with SNIDEn
But would sooner trust Mark Noble he lived for the club
I need more proof than SNIDEn has provided what he promised whic at this moment is something like 4 out of 20

    • D says:

SNIDEn! Love it, and there is an element of truth in that. He has taken all the plaudits and no criticism. Most of the players he has brought in, I like, but they haven’t all done well. The German striker is a massive disaster and a friend of his. Likewise I hope we don’t end up with Tadic who is another one of his friends. Because if it all goes pear shaped who do we blame then. Tadic was Sully’s choice not pooor ol Timmy…………

      • John says:

No truth in it at all – just fake news!

Füllkrug scored with his first opportunity when we had 31 chances in the Leicester game. He probably could’ve got 2-3 if introduced 20 mins earlier.

JLo was Sully’s choice, same as Terzic as free and available. Hoeness, Hurzeler and Amorin were Steidten candidates.

Your spelling and misinformation are as bad as each other.

Probably why you use the name D as you don’t know how to spell your own name 🤣

        • Matt says:

John just ignore idiots like D

It’s foolish to argue with a fool who believes conspiracy theories and obviously is as clueless as he is dyslexic.

Tadic plays for Southampton so D doesn’t seem to have any idea what he’s talking about 🤦‍♂️

I used to know somebody like D but now he is just somebody that I used to know.

        • D says:

          I’ve got dyslexia you c**t
          See I can’t spell that either. 🤣
The German striker is a complete waste of money ancient and injury just the sort of player we have always bought
He’s just a German Andy Caroll

  • John Ayris says:

Just sack him. It’s plain that he’s not of the requisite calibre and that he will be gone before too long anyhow. So just get on with it.

    • Matt says:

Exactly. How he is even being given the Wolves game after the shambles of a season so far is quite incredulous l!

  • Cubby says:

It will be Steidtens best deal by far if Loopy Loppy goes. Never have understood paying off a manager who has failed dismally. Show him the door and let him sue. Unfit for purpose but so is Sullivan I suppose so it is to be expected.

    • Paul K says:

Todibo gets my vote for Player of the Month if the rumour is true he had a swing at JLo 🥊

      • Steve1 says:

If any player, what ever the circumstances, has a “swing” at a manager then he should be gone. Not wanted at my club.

        • Matt says:

Agree that players can’t take matters in to their own hands (literally). It does strongly back up that there is genuine problems with the communication between the coach and players.

Todibo (if it’s true) went too far. Kudus, Alvarez and Füllkrug have all had issues with JLo for a variety of different reasons.

It seems he lost the trust of the players even before the fans and now the board.

          It’s been a disaster from Day 1

  • Kenny Irons says:

Lopetegui should be sitting in a bar in the Costa Del Sol, by now, contemplating his future.
Why do West Ham drag their feet when a decision should already have been made to say Adios ?

  • AndyB says:

Should have given power to Tim to chose our coach when replacing Moyes and then we wouldn’t even be in this disastrous position.

Hurzeler, Amorin, Hoeness were all Tim’s choices and all coaches that would’ve excited the fans!

Sully didnt listen and we got JLo.

If we finally have a DoF interviewing and discussing the type of players, brand of football and tactics, there is a much better chance of cohesion on & off the pitch.

It’s not exactly rocket science is it!
