Anderson to the rescue with a beauty

Huddersfield 1 Irons 1

Felipe Anderson rescued the Hammers with a second half strike of epic quality after the Terriers had held the lead into the 74th minute.

He  started and finished the goal with  with a fabulous shot into the top corner to ensure the Hammers remained unbeaten in their last three PL games.

He had not been at his best but a touch of magic was enough to ask on an afternoon when both teams had been looking for back to back wins.

Pritchard had scored for Town in the sixth minute with a shot which although never properly hit had enough on it to pass through Declan Rice’s legs and past a helpless Fabianski.

After that we made seriously hard work of it allowing the hosts to dominate and putting the fans through the usual range of emotions as they fought to get back.

We took charge for most of the second half but the big climax came from Huddersfield and thankfully the defence, with Cresswell clearing up well in front of goal in the last minute, up to the task.

Arnie had missed a chance early on when trying to curl an effort around the keeper from a Diangana through ball and substitute Antonio was left frustrated when his header from Snodgrass was cleared off the line.

In the end a point apiece was a fair result but disappointing in that that we couldn’t make that second half power pay off.

The result leaves us in a healthy 13th place three points clear of Newcastle and Burnley with Manchester City of course next up at the London Stadium.

It was one of those afternoons with which we have all become a bit too familiar, travelling with hope and optimism before being put through the emotional wringer.

But a year ago this would have been a game we would probably have lost had the match been similar so let’s be grateful for the point and move on.

Wasn’t there today but heard about Diop header off the line immediately after we scored. Did Antonio have one too. Only ask as certain MOTD will show 2 minutes at most!

Both Diop and Antonio had near post headers that went close. Antonio’s was headed off the line by Mooy at the near post and Diop’s just passed the outside of the far post with Chicharito not quite making it in time to turn it in.
