Andy Carroll underwent more ankle surgery

Andy Carroll underwent yet more surgery on his ankle for a long-standing issue which will now rule him out of contention until the end of his contract with West Ham.

It was his second ankle surgery of the season after the club reported that Carroll felt some discomfort in his ankle in July last year and further scans have revealed that he required some surgery to provide more strength and stability to the area. That seems to have failed.

Carroll only returned at the beginning of December last year playing 14 games before suffering an injury again in February.

In previous seasons he has been plagued by groin injuries, MCL and knee injuries,  torn ligaments, fractured foot, heel bone injury, hamstring tears and thigh injuries.

Last week Pellegrini refused to be drawn into questions about Andy Carroll’s future but it is the elephant in the room. We all know he won’t get a new contract, the club know it, the manager knows it, the players know it and Andy Carroll certainly knows it. Like with previous players approaching the end of their contract, Carroll won’t get his official letter from the club secretary until the appropriate time but it will hardly come as a surprise to anyone not least Carroll himself.

  1. There have been many injury-prone players in the history of the game, but none have been as unlucky as Andy Carroll. His biggest critics amongst West Ham fans have labelled him a ‘waste of space’ and much worse……but I feel truly desperate for the lad. As someone who has been plagued by injuries myself, starting with a stress related gym injury six years ago and having spent the past 15 months walking with crutches, I can relate to his situation. When Andy has been fit, and with the team playing to his strengths, he has been tremendous.

  2. Well that’s it then for Andy Carroll.Quite apt that his time at West Ham ends with him being injured. It bookends his time with us.Liked him when he was on it ie the Hat trick v Arsenal and that volley v Palace plus that late equaliser v Stoke which most certainly kept us up.Could have been great but plagued by injuries it has all fizzled out and ended sadly.

  3. Not being rude but I really couldn’t care less..I’ve not really thought about him as a player this year it’s a waste of time ..and to be honest from the pic I don’t think he cares either..he is still getting paid and buying houses everywhere

  4. He is awful. Our worst ever signing.

  5. He has been a great player for us in previous seasons whenever he has been on a run of games but it looks like he is another dean ashton that may be required to retire through injury.
