In a World Cup year, many players are sweating on call ups to international squad get- togethers next month hoping to catch the eye of their national coach: Jarrod Bowen of course is hoping for a nod from Thomas Tuchel and Crysencio Summerville is being tipped for a Netherlands slot in next month’s friendlies.
One West Ham on-loan star who will not be taking part in March action for his national side is former midfielder Edson Alvarez. The Mexico skipper is enduring a season to forget on loan in Turkey, suffering from a long term ankle injury that has twice curtailed his come back plans as the season has developed.
According to website si.com Alvarez’ future is looking bleak:
“Mexico’s captain has been nursing an ankle injury since early December that’s compromised his availability over the past two months. Twice Álvarez has tried to return to the pitch since sustaining the joint issue, and twice he’s been forced to return to the sidelines after aggravating the problem.”

“Reports coming from Türkiye aren’t positive in the slightest either, with multiple accounts suggesting Álvarez could be heading for surgery to fix his injured ankle. Although there’s no confirmation that surgery will be required, it’s a growing possibility.”
Which could not only mean the end of his World Cup ambition, but end his spell at Fenerbahçe on loan and force him to return to east London and an uncertain future.
Alvarez could find himself back at the club he thought he’d left behind, another Hammers’ senior player alongside Fullkrug, Ward-Prowse and Maxi Cornet who the club desperately hoped not to see again.
Not the end of the world if he returns . He is a proven winner and was made to look a poor player by being played out of position with no midfield support . He lacks pace but utilised correctly has a lot to offer . Surrounded by the youngsters that now inhabit our midfield he could flurish . Certainaly way better than Ward Prowse , Rodriguez, etc . Certainly a squad player worth having.
