Another ankle injury raises question mark over star’s career | West Ham News

This season -without wishing to tempt fate – West Ham appear to have struggled far less with player injuries than in recent years.

Quite possibly as the average age within the squad has declined and many of the club’s elder statesmen and more injury-prone players have departed, so have the numbers ruled out through fitness diminished accordingly.

Pablo Felipe alongside third choice veteran ‘keeper Lucas Fabianski  are the Hammers’ only two senior squad members currently sidelined through fitness issues.

Away from the squad, however, on – loan George Earthy has again fallen victim of an ankle injury. The 21 year old is back at Bristol City after a successful season-long loan in 2024-5 but has had to endure a frustrating wait for first team opportunities: He now finds himself sidelined, according to City’s manager Gerhard Struber. Reported by the72.co.uk:

“George Earthy has – again – something on the ankle, and he is injured,” the Bristol Cityboss said. “We have to look, maybe it’s not so bad. Maybe two, three weeks, after the international break, maybe he’s back.”

Earthy missed the whole of pre-season  at West Ham last year with the same issue – again an ankle injury that ruled him out of Potter’s preseason tour to Florida, followed by a lengthy layoff from football with a hamstring problem last Autumn.

Again struggling with an ankle injury: George Earthy

There must be question marks hanging over Earthy’s future now, with so many recurrences at such a young age: Nuno reportedly left Earthy out of his senior squad and playing the under 21’s for an extended spell before Christmas, in order to avoid risking further injury for the young star.

Worryingly  it seems Earthy has broken down again. We can only hope that Struber’s prognosis is right and Earthy’s absence proves to be just for a couple of weeks. It must be incredibly challenging for the midfielder who just cannot seem to string even half a season of games together without injury interrupting his progress.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
