Another Hammer to be sold subject to medical

Middlesbrough are on the brink of signing West Ham attacker Marcus Browne, with the player due for a medical today according to Football Insider.

West Ham made it known that Browne was available on a permanent transfer and Middlesbrough are reported to have beaten off interest from a number of clubs to secure a deal for the winger.

The news was first broken by EXWhuemployee an hour ago when he said “Marcus Browne is on his way to Middlesbrough to sign a permanent deal there”

The 21-year-old enjoyed a successful season on loan at Oxford United last term, scoring nine goals and creating five assists for the League One club but is unlikely to break into the first team anytime soon under Manuel Pellegrini.

The attacking midfielder joined West ham at the age of eight. A skilful player capable of playing across the forward line, Browne made his senior debut for West Ham United as a substitute in the UEFA Europa League Play-Off round draw at Romanian side Astra Giurgiu in August 2016. Browne has also spent time on loan at Wigan Athletic.

Last summer he travelled with the first-team squad for pre-season training and appeared in the 3-2 defeat by FC Winterthur in Austria on 8 July 2018. Celtic, Rangers and Fulham have all been touted having following the youngster and could make a bid for the Academy attacker who has a contract with the Hammers for another 12 months.

  1. How much we getting for him ?
And will the money go to bring in CDM or defender

  2. A good player and sorry to see him go. I actually think he is a better player than Diangana but that’s just a personal opinion. Delighted to hear we are looking at bringing in a midfielder and forward. I have to say I would love it if we signed Barbosa, he is left footed, can play on the right cutting in, as a 10 and as a 9. He is young, proven and would cover a number of positions. Come on make this happen and I would say we could get him for 20m, payable in two installments. He is exactly the player we need.

  3. Even though I’m sad to see another youngster go, I’m quit happy we will get something out of it.

We used to let all these guys go on free transfers at the end of their contracts. We are starting to act like a big club.

  4. Good luck Marcus hope you do it at the Boro I got a couple of Oxford mates who were praying they could get this season…

  5. I don’t know if he’s better than Diangana, but it’s frustrating to see players leave before having an opportunity. Diangana has been very lucky in my view. His first game was against a team dead last in the football league and he shined. Nathan Holland or Marcus Browne may have done just as well but their chance never came. Personally I think Diangana regressed after a really impressive first few games. Like others have said, I think he’s too lightweight and apparently he is a confidence player. it looked that way because he started having little or no impact. That’s when I would have liked to seen Nathan Holland get a crack.

Browne always looked good but I guess we see glimpses every 12 months in pre-season and the coaching staff see them every day. I think it would be smart to start inserting buy back clauses in these sales as a matter of course so if any do kick on, we can benefit in the future. Browne going to Middlesbrough suggests that he has the potential. I hope we don’t come to regret selling him. I also hope Middlesbrough overpay as much as they did on the Ashley Fletcher deal.

    • Well said Dom I agree with your view on Diangana against Cheltenham he looked good but after that average to challenge for top we need better than average players. Saying that there is still time for him to progress and learn from the first team players he has around him.

  6. Sad to see one of our better youngsters go, but good luck to the feller, i believe he will end up at a bigger club than Burra some day..

  7. I’ve seen quite a bit of this fella, think this could be another stanilas and will be a good player in a few years.
    Time will tell….

  8. Like others have said he’s better than Diangana who got lucky and I don’t think we progress.

  9. Been quoted as for sale for 300k!!!
If true that is madness 🤬
