Rumours abound that Nuno Espírito Santo is on his way out of the club after a hastily arranged meeting with the board following yesterday’s relegation to the Championship.
For weeks, the stories have been circulating that the club needs to sell most of its first team players to pay burgeoning debt and fund the shortfall in revenue which will hit now that the Premier League gravy train has departed without West Ham upon it.
Yesterday Jarrod Bowen made his feelings known after the Leeds game, hinting that he wanted to remain at the club which meant everything to him.
Less than 12 hours later and another stalwart has gone public on twitter with his own feelings – and dropped a similarly huge hint that he’s on board to stay with the club:
It’s the telling last sentence that has been seized upon by observers this afternoon:
“Now its on us to respond the right way, work harder than ever and fight to bring West Ham back where it belongs”
If he stays and succeeds, along with skipper Jarrod Bowen, in dragging West Ham back into the Premier League it’ll be time for a new crowdfunded statue of the pair at the stadium entrance.
Whether Sullivan’s self inflicted financial chaos will demand that the likes of Bowen and ‘Tornado Tom’ are sold to pay off the enormous debts, though, is another matter altogether.
But for Hammers hero Soucek, huge credit for seemingly pledging himself to the cause, despite those 50% relegation clause salary cuts. Sometimes it is nice to see that, even in the most difficult of times, there’s more to football than ‘just’ money.
We’ll all just have to keep our fingers crossed and suspend judgement until the summer window concludes. Whilst David Moyes at Everton has a bag full of cash there’s still every chance he could convince Sullivan to part with Soucek despite the player’s wishes.
If we can get Bowen and Soucek to stay with KWP,Mavro,Wilson (I know the German rumours ) and all the youngsters we have a great chance.
Bowen will be sold whether he wants to stay or not. Soucek maybe stays on lower wages since he wont command much of a transfer fee
Wrong! He cannot be just sold if he doesn’t want to join that club.
The contract between a player and the club is binding.So no the club can’t make Bowen leave.

That’s great to hear. There’s unfortunately value in some other players that will have to go to balance the books like Summerville, Fernandes, Todibo, Wan Bissaka and Diouf I’d like to keep Mavropanos, Taty, Pablo, Bowen, Soucek, KWP. And perhaps Kilman can find his Mojo out of the spotlight.
If we could keep that little bit of experience and let the likes of Scarles, Earthy, Kante, Potts, Magassa Lamadrid etc … all find their feet in a tough league then I’d be very pleased.
Hello Bob, I’m being greedy, but hope they break the bank (again), to keep Fernandes somehow, because he holds the midfield together and is crucial – unlikely I know.
Feel the same, keeping core players of character who play for team, club and fans. Championship is a tough league and you need the right players for this.
Whatever does happen, Bowen & Soucek are 2 people of character and determination.

Nonsense. He clearly has ability and very high energy and tenacity that could serve us well in the championship as it has so far. The uptick of points gained since his and taty’s inclusion to the team would have translated to safety with ease had they spent the entire season with us. Being so young also means he has vast scope for development. Perhaps not even ending up as a striker. He’s not on high wages so really wouldn’t recoup any value to keep us afloat financially. I didn’t just pick him over someone like Summerville because i thought he was better, it’s because I felt that keeping Bowen and Soucek works be better for us that day keeping some of the others listed. We need to try and retain the only real heart we have in the squad.
