I guess the byproduct of West Ham being linked with so many players is that weāll inevitably lose out to other clubs on some of our transfer targets.
So, hot on the heels of the disappointing Harvey Elliott news comes the update that Everton have pipped West Ham to the signing of Douglas Luiz.
There really should be little surprise with this one. After all, it was mostly the Italian media linking The Hammers with a move for the Juventus midfielder. Any genuine interest the Irons might have had in luring the former Aston Villa and Manchester City man to the London Stadium probably ended when Juve insisted on an obligation to buy.
Reports over the past few days suggested West Ham were only interested in a season-long loan with a ātry before you buyā option rather than a firm commitment.
Everton and David Moyes, however, donāt seem to have been put off by committing ā¬30ā40m on the 27-year-old. Goodison News and several other news sites are confident that the Toffees now have this one wrapped up.
Disappointing? Yes, I suppose so. Luiz is an excellent player who would have undoubtedly improved Graham Potterās midfield. But truthfully, I never fully believed this rumourāespecially with the astronomical wages and fee being quoted.
Missing out on the likes of Habib Diarra and Ardon Jashari is more concerning, given West Hamās stated aim of recruiting young, hungry players who havenāt yet made their name.
Oh wellāon to the next one.

Luiz has had anything but a good spell at Juve. Typical Moyes move, believing he can recover a players career. Someone who had been excellent, but has fallen out of favor. It was very much a hit and miss policy. Get it right and you have the fifty million player that Juve paid for at a discount. Get it wrong and it makes Ings look like a sensible move.
Hmm.. Are these stories true I donāt know, but if they are the issue is the āloan with a try before you buyā clause. Itās the sort of thing you would expect from Del āBoyā Trotter, not a Premier League club, oh wait a minuteā¦. š¤£
@M B. Yes, it’s our Dave ‘Boy’ Sullivan! š¤£
West Ham and Sullivan are the pits . Total mismanagement over s period of time has come home to roost . Canāt hold onto our best players or attract average players to join . Moyes acting quicker than Sullivan says it all . Odds on to get relegated in the coming season. A disgraceful circus where the clown runs the show.
I don’t think we missed out on either HE or DL simply because we were not in for either. We can’t afford HE, nor can I think of any reason he would move to us. DL does not fit the profile Potter has clearly set for the players we are seeking……too old……and as previously mentioned no resale value. On this occasion it is nothing to do with poor negotiations or being slow off the blocks.
As ever, we are about the most amateur run club, sell up! and let us have the Professional Run Club we deserve!
Sullivan is taking the fans for fool and he will leave Poter out to dry saying it is Poters signings not his or lady mucks
If this is true then it is very disappointing – more so that the others you mention tbh.
We should not be disappointed by this. Spending big on players that would have little resale value is a major part of how we got in such a financial mess in the first place. Potter is very wise to pass on this one. It is frustrating/worrying that we have had little success in this window but repeating the mistakes of the past is not the answer.
Dithering Dave to Daring Dave.
Just goes to show, it was not Daveās fault when having a tough winter market or two. Clearly when at WHU, the board were dictating who to buy and when to buy. DM can and is good at investing club money, he is showing WHU how and when to do it.
Make your mind up, for years you told us he was ādithering Daveā now heās snapping everything up.
Spot On.
We all know how long Moyes (allegedly) took to make decisions about recruitment at West Ham. His procrastination is said to have frustrated the board frequently. I remember he used to say he would never sign anybody who wasnāt demonstrably better than what we had, and when you have players like Fredericks and Masuaku playing every week I would wonder what the hold up was.
Itās a measure of how slow we are to act when David Moyes is all over us.
Beaten to the punch by dithering Dave Proves one thing for sure it’s our board that are dim and slow not him
It is Moyes though, seems a bit early for him to be deciding and getting someone in?
