Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has emerged as yet another potential transfer target for West Ham United. With the player seemingly out of favour at Anfield, a move away from the club could be on the cards.

The defender was left out of Arne Slot’s matchday team to play Ipswich Town on Saturday.

With Gomez’s Anfield future now thrown into doubt, there is mounting speculation he will leave the Scousers before the end of the month with several clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Gomez’s versatility and experience would undoubtedly be valuable additions to the Hammers’ squad. His ability to play both as a center-back and a right-back offers manager Julen Lopetegui tactical flexibility.

However, West Ham have already made significant investments in their defensive line this summer, with the arrivals of Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Jean-Clair Todibo. This suggests that the club may prioritize other areas of the squad for reinforcement.

Ultimately, the decision to pursue a move for Joe Gomez will depend on several factors, including the player’s availability, Liverpool’s asking price, and West Ham’s assessment of their defensive needs.

Make no mistake, West Ham absolutely need to strengthen the defence. We have made three good signings but the rest are below par for a team hoping to qualify for Europe. I would say that we need two more “capable” defenders – whoever they might be – possibly even three. Coufal, Mavroponos, Cresswell & Palmieri are , for me, not capable defenders & we need competition & backup for the three that we now do have.

Emerson is great. I think he just needs to play in a settled defensive line up. Mav is a very good cover CB to Kilman and Todibo.

More need a replacement for Cress.

Gomez I like but he isn’t going to move from the bench at Anfield to the bench at West Ham – he will want assurances of game time.

If J-Lo wants to play 3 CBs then I would sign him. Otherwise, I would try to find a younger up and coming player who might tolerate not being first choice for a season

Good. choice as he can play multiple positions across backline.
Need to give Emerson cover is an absolute must.
Unfortunately transfer fee is £40m, more chance of winning lottery.
Cheaper alternative needed or hope Emerson doesn’t get injured/suspended.
        Time is of an essence.

Can’t see this happening at all. And to be honest even if we have £40m left to spend, which we were told here last week that we definitely do not, it should be spent on a striker.
