Antonio defends Moyes decision

David Moyes’ statement of a few weeks ago that both strikers would be featuring in games on some occasions doesn’t appear to be happening to any extent at all.

Some have called for it given our goalscoring problems but apart from a couple of games it hasn’t happened surprising a few.

The first time was in the second half of the 2-0 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 21 when they were on the same pitch for 12 minutes, the second time was Liverpool away when Antonio came on a 74th minute substitute to join Scamacca for sixteen minutes.

It’s a decision supported by Michail Antonio who was happy to give his views when speaking to Match of the Day

He explained that it was difficult for the manager to go down that route given the variety pf players he had in the squad.

With the likes of Pablo Fornals, Manu Lanzini, Lucas Paqueta and Said Benrahma available he declared: “We’ve got so many No.10s so it’s difficult to leave two [strikers] out because we’ve obviously bought Paqueta in.

“Once he comes back in, I feel he needs to start and we aren’t going to push him out wide because we brought him in there to create and stuff like that. Going two [up front] then when he is back is going to be difficult.

“The only time we could really do it is around now when he is not available but the teams we are playing against, maybe it is just not something the gaffer is really thinking about right now. It’s something we could do in the future.
