Antonio emulates Zamora

|

Michail Antonio became the first player to score at Spurs new stadium and his goal led the first win at the new 62,000 stadium that opened on 3rd April this year.  A feat that league leaders Manchester City couldn’t even manage when they visited North London in early April.

Antonio will be remembered in West Ham folk law alongside Bobby Zamora who became the goal scorer that took the record at the new Emirates stadium in April 2007 against Arsenal and helped the Hammers become the last team to defeat Arsenal in a Premier League game at Highbury.

Alan Pardew’s Hammers, who would go on to reach the FA Cup final in their first season back in the top flight, had too much for the Gunners, moving into a 2-0 lead in the first half, and keeping their noses in front thereafter.  Nigel Reo-Coker, Bobby Zamora and Matthew Etherington were all on target to make the final score 3-2 in front of 38,000 at the old Highbury ground.
