Antonio misses out on PFA award

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has been voted the PFA Player of the Month for June/July by football fans across the country.

In a vote run by fan engagement experts, Snack Media, the Portuguese star won with 44% of the vote, beating teammate Anthony Martial, who came in in second place with 25%.

Michail Antonio was placed fourth with just six per cent of the vote.

Big clubs have an unfair advantage in these public fan votes with the sheer number of supporters they can muster to back their own players.

Antonio was in scintillating form as the Premier League season came to a close, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in seven games, helping his team to secure their top-flight status but it appears fans vote on a tribal basis.

The full list of contenders from the final shortlist polled were as follows:

● Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) – 44%
● Anthony Martial (Manchester United) – 25%
● Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – 13%
● Michail Antonio (West Ham) – 6%
● Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) – 6%
● Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) – 6%

  1. Bit of a pointless exercise considering the size of Man Utds fan base.
