Antonio ready for a big Saturday night

|

Michail Antonio is looking for silverware in the coming weeks with Jamaica getting their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign started this weekend.

The 33-year-old – strongly tipped to be moving on this summer although should Gianluca return to Italy he could easily remain  – is ready for a tilt at a major international tournament

Twice runners-up in the competition in the past eight years, the Reggae Boyz will be hoping to go one better in the United States of America and Canada.

Jamaica are in Group A  alongside the USA, Trinidad and Tobago, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, and kick off tonight (Sat) when they face the hosts in Chicago. Antonio, who has netted three goals in seven appearances for his country, cannot wait to get started.

And he has been talking about his hopes for the Reggae Boyz in an interview on www.whufc.com where he spoke of the Conference Final victory and of those for his country.

He said: “It was an amazing feeling celebrating the Europa Conference League with the Jamaican flag. Everyone there was celebrating their country, so I was definitely celebrating mine and the island where my mum grew up and the place where she always brought me from when I was young. “I’m here now with the Jamaican team and hoping to win another title. Our build-up has been good, spirits seem high, everyone seems confident, and the training went well. I’m quite positive.

“I am definitely enjoying coming here into a tournament and linking up with the boys. We have a good bond now, as the atmosphere and the camaraderie is always good. I enjoy it and we’re going to keep going.”
